It is usually best to give your damage dealers (Mages and Assassins) the best equip and gem it first, after that supporters and defenders or rogues can do with mediocre equip.
So to be able to beat it fastest, give your fire dragon a (maxed) ego sword with your best T3 fire equip and then give him some levels above other pets.
2 - Yes, mage in place of rogue seems good.
3 - I see you don't have Phoenix Feathers in used section. Your dog and Penguin died early, this should be affecting the party a lot. Maybe add some?
Also, your assassins aren't doing much more damage than your rogue, so I would consider swapping one of them out for a mage instead. The loot bonus from rogues does affect Magic Shadow Essence (giving you a chance to get 2), which potentially makes a big difference if you're throwing a large number of consumables at the boss fight.
You could also replace another assassin with a supporter. In this run, at least, you aren't running out of time; you're dying to the boss's damage. A supporter would give you some extra healing and also damage reduction for all your pets.
* added Phoenix feathers as luizpedronovak suggested and a few Health Potion X according to Ryu
* replaced 2 assassins, one with a level 75 mage, one with a level 76 supporter.
So going in with:
2 mages level 75, 1 supporter (76), 1 defender (74), 1 assassin (76) and 1 rogue (70), 10 Phoenix Feathers, 20 Health Potion X and a few Shadow Essence.
Thanks for the suggestions so far! I'll report back when it's done.
I'll spoiler stuff as early hints might be enough for one to want to try things themselves. It might be a bit annoying. Sorry.
Hint 1: There is a way to passively do a lot of damage. Especially over a long turn count.
Hint 2: That Burn2 of the Super Rogue Shadow Clone sure is bad, it's % based. Wonder how it would like a taste of its own medicine?
Hint 3: Think about the elephant in the room.
Full reveal (including team): The burn effect of the Elephant pet (burns enemies which attack the elephant) does 1.5% max HP to bosses (quick look at the logs shows this happens once or twice per turn). The Super Rogue Shadow Clone acted 3-4 times per turn for me so even if the Elephant isn't a defender it should be getting hit.
So my first team was:
Front row: Elephant level 51 (no class), dog level 51 (L12 defender), ghost level 65 (L8 rogue)
Back row: Fairy level 69 (L16 supporter), Dragon level 72 (L17 mage), Frog level 67 (L16 supporter)
Second team: Replace Ghost with Whale (level 69, defender 16). I replaced Ghost because the scare always failed (ghost had 291 atk). I don't know if more attack would have it succeed.
Equipment was T1 (Fairy), T3 (Frog, Dog*, Whale), T2 (rest). Varying ranks and upgrades (T3 equip is level 5 with grades across the spectrum).
*Dog has one T2 equip; a SSS+20 steel pot with a level 11 def gem (a speed gem on a flame sword was the only other gem).
I had phoenix feathers but they did not need to be used. Health potion X was sufficient (typical use ~25).
thax btw tip, just adding bit late extra: elephant aint only one doing %based hp dmg, yeah undine does so too even before evolve or final form (3+water/400)% dmg every turn undine takes (so unless you can ramp water notably for more dmg, focusing into speed can add quite bit dmg)
