White Day: A Labyrinth Named School

2001 or Remake?
I managed to get the original 2001 Korean release running on my PC in English, and I'm an hour in. Should I quit it to play the remake? How similar is it to the remake? Which is scarier?

But the ghosts only show up on Hard and Real difficulties in the remake. But White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is one of the scariest games I have played. It is definetly better to play the 2001 version first.

I would also recommend downloading the Ultimate Fan Patch which adds removed content back into the 2001 version. Check out the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=10&v=LIQ_zgzPq3U

Basically the mod adds al of the content that was cut from the game and adds it back in. It also adds back in a pepper spray bottle and a tazer to protect yourself from the Janitor. But you have to find these items in the game, they are well hidden. The game was so scary that the people who made it removed a lot of content and ghosts. But this mod recreates the first version of White Day that was the creepiest. Here is the mod page: https://www.moddb.com/mods/white-day-the-ultimate-fan-patch-v060/downloads/white-day-the-ultimate-fan-patch-version-060

Also make sure that you download the latest patch for the 2001 game here: https://www.moddb.com/games/white-day/downloads/white-day-v163-patch

The v16.3 patch will fix a lot of the issues and make it run a whole lot smoother.

I hope you enjoy! Don't get too scared! :D

Thanks for the detailed response! Do you know if I have to restart the game for the patch to work? Even if I'm only an hour in I don't necessarily want to reset...

Also, how can I be sure I'm not running the patch already? I remember downloading it (the patch, I mean) but I'm not certain I'm running it or not.

You are very welcome! I don't mind helping out someone in need. :) You don't have to restart the game for the patch to work. But you do have to restart the game if you download the ultimate fan patch mod. So if you use the v16.3 patch you don't have to restart your game. You can tell which version you are running by opening up your White Day Launcher. It should be the WhiteDay - Start.exe located in your White Day game directory which is usually (C:\Program Files (x86)\WHITEDAY). It will tell you which version you are running in the lower left corner of the launcher. If it says you are running version 16.3 then you have the latest patch installed, if not then drag the patcher to your White Day game directory and install it. Remember, you don't have to restart your game if you are installing the patch.

If you don't want to restart your game then don't download and install the Ultimate Fan Patch Mod. But I highly recommend you check it out. Since a lot of things that were removed from the original game are restored in this mod. It is well worth losing an hour of gameplay over. Since there are so many new things added. But it is up to you whether you want to restart or not. You could always just play the original game without the mod and then after that install it to see the differences. White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is definetly good enough to play over and over again to get all of the endings. I hope you have fun! :D

I'm running build 15.6 so I'd have to restart to play the patch you mentioned- Since our last discussion I made more progress in the game so I probably wouldn't want to restart it.

Ahaha, I can't be sure about replaying it; it's already terrified me more than enough for one lifetime. But if I ever do want to replay it, then I'll be sure to use the patch!
No problem man! But if you experience any issues or glitches you can patch the game without restarting your save. I was just saying that you can't install the Ultimate Fan Patch Mod without restarting. The v16.3 patch can be applied without restarting your game. Don't feel too bad about being scared out of your pants playing this. When I first played it I $hit myself it was so scary. No joke! :D

Good luck and watch out for the Janitor! :2017meatball:

Ahaha, I will, thank you!

I guess you've likely made your decision, but here are my two cents:

I found the original more enjoyable, personally. Janitor AI is wonk on both, but the original actually gives you room to breath and take in the atmosphere. There are more ghosts in this one, but they've all been turned into petty jumpscares. Even the ones from the original. It may have had less content, but it made better use of what it did have than this remake does. If you can stand the old graphics and can get it to run, you'll get more for free than you you will spending $30 on this.

Understood. I really do enjoy the atmosphere, so I'd hate to have it interrupted by too many janitors and jump scares.

And it took me over an hour of headaches to get it to run to begin with, so it sounds like I'd best not ignore the fruits of that labor.

Hey, so, how do I get this working?
I remember hearing I need to open it in Japanese app locale, but it's saying it can't find it, it needs to be valid.

Another thing is that it crashes immediately after the first scene, where Lee enters the school.

I know this is 2 years old, but I'm trying to have some hope about it.

I'm no computer whiz, and I never did manage to play the original for very long (got too scared honestly), so I may not be the most help, but...

I got it working again recently on my PC, so I can try to help you out.

Download the game (I don't want to provide a link), then install this patch:
https://www.moddb.com/games/white-day/downloads/white-day-v163-patch

Then install this patch:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/white-day-the-ultimate-fan-patch-v060/downloads/white-day-the-ultimate-fan-patch-version-060

Then go to the install folder. For me, it's "WHITEDAY" in program files x86. Right click the shortcut in the install folder. There should be two shortcuts, so right click the one called "whiteday." Once you've right clicked it, an option for Locale Emulator should show up. Hover over that, then click the option "Run With Application Profile." The patches above should have assigned it a Korean profile that runs the game properly.

To check if the game works properly, skip the first cut scene. When you can walk around in the lobby, you should see a heart icon in the bottom left. If the icon is not there, then the game isn't working properly, and is almost certainly unplayable. Other indicators that show the game isn't working are if you see someone floating in the lobby or if the bathroom nearby is pitch black. When this happens, it's usually because of a locale error.

Please let me know if you're able to get it running!
