Rom Compatibility - Capcom's "Battle Circuit"
I heard that using the 2014mame libretro dll that is linked in the official guide would make almost any 0.139 MAME Rom run. However I am having issues finding a 0.139 version of Battle Circuit.

Do Capcom games require some sort of BIOS file like the Neo-Geo games do? I would LOVE to add Battle Circuit to my arcade.

CPSII games require the Qsound Audio BIOs. For mame its qsound.zip. You'll need this for the majority of CPSII games. You just need to place it in NRA:N's ROMs folder.

Thanks! I'll try this when I get home, can't wait!

If for some reason it still doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to assist you as best as I can.

I haven't had any luck at all getting any of the games I want to play to work. There is a small collection of roms that seem to work that I found on reddit, but anything that I've grabbed from sites like emunation, just end up crashing the game to desktop. rather infuriating

Hmm, have you looked at the guide yet? Specificly the section about Parent and Child ROMs?

If I had to hazard a guess you may be trying to run a Child ROM without the required ROM chips from the parent and it will actually crash NRA:N.

A great way to tell if you have a Child ROM is to go to www.mamedb.com, look up your game and find the entry with that matches the filename of your ROM. You'll be able to see if it is a clone of a previous or later game revision.

Yeah, I actually had really good luck setting up my arcades in the old free version, and even the demo. but this time around, I am not having good luck. I'm very familiar with mame emulation, and have been sooo excited about this game. I've got the entire bios rom pack in the roms directory from emuparadise, which supposedly has all of the supporting roms you'd need for particular games. I know there are roms that just have trouble working, and maybe it's just my luck that I keep picking those. but I didn't have nearly this much trouble in the old free version.

Hmm, you could also just have bad or incompatabile ROM dumps. I was helping out someone the other day trying to get Fatal Fury to run. We compared our MD5 hashes between our ROMs and sure enough his NEO-GEO bios didn't match.

Yeah, I'm used to having to download a few different versions every now and then to find one that works. I need to put more time into this and see if I'm just dealing with bad roms.

I must admit, the difficulty I'm having with getting my roms set up in this version is really what is frustrating me the most. if I could just get this stuff to work like i had expected, I'd be much happier about my purchase.

In any case, Here's what I just did. I loaded up RetroArch, and plugged in the mame 2014 libretro core that you've got in your rom set up guide. I then went in and selected my "indytemp.zip" rom. This is for indiana jones and the temple of doom. When I run the mame2014 core and this indytemp rom, it runs just fine in the little display screen that RetroArch gives me. So, I set up a cabinet in NRA:Neon with the indytemp.zip rom, and selected the mame2014_libretro.dll as the emulator. When I go into the arcade and interact with the cabinet, I get an immediate crash to desktop, and the following error:

"Runtime Error!

Program: F:\Steam\steamapps\common\New Retro Acade Neon\NewRetroArcade\Binaries\Win64\newRetroArcade.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information"

this is the same way many of the roms I've tried to load behave.

Then there are Roms that don't crash the game out, but the cabinet just freezes there, displaying sort of a corrupted image but never loading the rom.

All the while, these roms run just fine outside of NRA in mame

any ideas?

Well in the case of Indiana Jones, you're missing a BIOs file. atarisy1.zip needs to be in your ROMs folder along with any other BIOs files you may have.

If you look up the game on MAMEDB, you'll see down at the bottom that the atarisy1.zip is listed as a Parent. http://www.mamedb.com/game/indytemp

If you'll list the rest of the ROMs you're having trouble with, I'll glady see if you're missing any files.

well I'll be darned!! I've been testing this out and moving files, copying files into the demo folders, moving files to my mame folder, all this time, and now I look in my stinking NRA:Neon folder and see you're totally right. I somehow was missing the atarisy1 file in there. dangit.

thanks!! Hopefully now that I'm copying all of my support bios files into the right folder, I will have less trouble with the mame emulation.

My indytemp is workign now

thanks again!
