How to select different characters in SImpsons / TMNT etc.?

So I d/l the game pak via the guide thread. I fixed the issue of nothing working (by mass deleting the.dll extensions). Phew. Missions so far but ok I'm happy to put some leg work in.

Now does anyone have any idea how I select 2P, 3P or 4P etc. in games where you can play other characters (such as simpsons and TMNT etc.)

The ones in that pack are the 4 player versions. If you use the 2 player versions of the respective ROMs, you can choose your character.

MAME roms are divided into Parent and Child roms.

The roms you have right now for TMNT and The Simpsons are the parent roms. In order to play the versions of the game that allow you to select your character, you need to have the correct child ROM. The parent roms also have to be in the same directory as the child ROMs, because they share many of the actual ROM chips.

In the case of TMNT, you'll need to obtain either the UK 2 Player varient of the game or the Japanese varient

As for The Simpsons, there are a number of 2 Player varients, both with the World and Japanese versions. If I recall correctly, the games differ quite a bit between region, so pick the one you want.
