One of the things I loved about the arcades was walking up to machines that I had never seen before and finding some fantastic games. If like me you love NewRetroArcade, but feel that the environment can get a bit stale then this add-on is for you.

Ok, so what is the point in this I hear you ask? Well, the whole objective of this is to have a library of content that can be either randomly generated or held in a fixed location. I have a list of my favourite games that want to see in the arcade all the time, but I would like the arcade to randomise some of the elements. This allows the limitations of the small arcade to grow by just maintaining a list of available content. On top that the tool allows you to preview every aspect of your arcade. No more manual configuration steps. Just use the Arcade Manager to configure the game the way you like with minimal fuss.

Instructions

1. Please backup your existing Steam\steamapps\common\New Retro Arcade Neon\NewRetroArcade directory before continuing.
2. Install the add-on to Steam\steamapps\common\New Retro Arcade Neon\NewRetroArcade folder.
3. Run the ArcadeManager.exe and configure your arcade.

This will produce a preconfigured artwork file that can then be imported by other users. When I'm in game I'm also having the issue of the asteroids screen on all of my arcade games, which might be caused by the above?

You need to add the roms to the roms directory where you have NewRetroArcade installed. The pack doesn't include roms for legal reasons so you need to source them yourself. The attract screens will only generate for games that exist. Asteroids is the default video.

The pop-up warning is to tell you that it won't work. The default install path is

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\New Retro Arcade Neon\NewRetroArcade

but you can change this to match your steam location. In my case it's

E:\Steam\steamapps\common\New Retro Arcade Neon\NewRetroArcade

Yes, go to Import Options and configure the settings to how you want the cabinets to appear then run the rom scanner and that will scrape any additional roms and setup the artwork for you. You may only want to do this for parent roms to avoid lots of duplicate games. I would also recommend only using the standard cabinets list as there are lots of standard cabs vs only 4 specials.

The process will take some time (maybe hrs) to run for over 1300 as it will try and download attract screens and artwork for all of those games. Just check that you have enough disk space as that will be GBs worth of data.

For me, Import Options only allows me to import an existing XML. Is there another section I should look at to point the app to my Launchbox roms? As an aside, you should work with the devs in getting this included with the game. This makes everything so easy and fun to customize.

Hi Finchbyrd, the import options for LaunchBox and Rom Scanner should show if you have the standard, special or lightgun cabinet lists open. It was originally designed for the standard cab list as this has the most cabs in game.

Please also be aware that you will need to manually copy the LaunchBox roms to the roms directory. I have deliberately left this manual as some people prefer to set up symbolic links to other directories.

I just downloaded the lite package, and there does not seem to be an installer with it (there is no SETUP.MSI that I can find).

There does appear to be a SETUP.MSI file in the full package, so I installed that. However, when I chose the "Lauch" option, it gives me an error "You are running this application from the wrong folder". How can that be, I used the installer and the installer launched the app?

UPDATE: I see the error. It looks like the installer is always installing to where Steam is installed. However, install my games on another drive. Steam is installed on C:, while my games are all installed on D:. Neon is installed on D:. However, the installer installed to C:.

So 2 issues with the current version:
1. The Lite version does not include an installer. It also doesn't look complete as the folder layout doesn't match the full version folder layout.
2. The installer assumes the installation folder, rather than using the actual installation folder.

Hi,

The lite version will not match the full version as it does not include the artwork and requires a manual installation. I.e copy and paste.

In terms of the full version you must manually align the installation to your default steam location as the installer doesn't know where you have installed the game too. There is nothing I can do about that without writing a custom installer program.

Is there no way to just read them from my MAME roms folder? Also, if I have to copy them over (and before I do) they are in .7z format- does this program support 7zipped roms? Thanks. Just adding that they are also up to date for the latest version of MAME so I hope the sets haven't changed too much from the two supported libretro versions.
