What exactly works in Coop?
So I know any ROMS you use can't be played together in coop, but how does that work? Are the arcade cabinets just dead? Can the players play them individually? Do the attract modes work?

What about the videos in the theatre?

I'm thinking about buying this for a friend (I already own it) but if there isn't that much to do in coop I don't see the point because I doubt he woudl play it much on his own.

You can indeed play the Arcade Cabinets, but just not in multiplayer. All you have to do is download the relevant libretro core and give it a MAME ROM to play. The same also works for the Game Console in the VIP room. You can read all about it here! Be sure to read everything throughly so you don't miss out on any information.

Video playback does work in the theater with webstreams, such as youtube. There are also a number of mini-games that players can play and interact with such as bowling, air-hockey, a lightgun game by the name of Zombie Problem 2 and a Arena FPS by the name of Aimbot.

So I'm assuming that means the host can play the arcade cabinets but not the guest?
Vermillion Nov 12, 2016 @ 11:16am
Each player will see their respective arcade games that they have loaded. So if the host has cabinet 9 set to Tekken and the guest has that set to Battletoads, the guest will see their battletoads cabinet. The guest(s) can still interact with the cabinets and play the games they have loaded of course.

I still think it would be good to let guests play or at least watch the hosts games. I don't think anyone will complain.

Ok, that's actually better than I was expecting. Thanks.

What about the videos/music? Are those consistent for all players?

Like I said above, players can watch the same video streams and listen to the same music streams, such as internet radio. Local files however will not work unless both players had the files in the exact locations with the exact paths.

It's not a matter of anyone complaining. It's such a large technical hurdle that may never come to fruition because of how libretro's netplay work with the MAME core. It's possible to connect via RetroArch, but the inputs are massively bugged after the fact. It's something the team wouldn't be able to act on.

Thanks man. You just sold another copy. I'm buying it to hang out and play with a buddy. Hell, I may just buy 2 more copies and give one to another friend.

Ok, I got my own arcade set up the way I want. All atract screens and emulators work except I can't get the consoles or portables to work. Any tips or guides to get that going?
Vermillion Nov 12, 2016 @ 3:12pm
What issue are you having exactly? I've listed some common issues below. If it isn't one of them, just describe it and I'll give you a hand. :)

  • Did you add the emulation cores via the Arcade Builder?
  • Are the ROMs the correct filetype? You can find a chart in the guide that lays it all out.
  • Are you unable to edit the entries in the Arcade Builder
EternalGamer Nov 12, 2016 @ 3:32pm
Yeah I am using the builder. I got the console stuff working. The portable games stuff doesn't however. It plays sound but the screens don't display anything.
Vermillion Nov 12, 2016 @ 3:32pm
Ah, you simply need to have a light source on the screen. In non-vr, you can press F to turn on a flashlight and use that as a light. The bar area also provides ample light.

Strangely it was with the wrong libretto cores that I got sound. The files were .gb but the libretto was mgba. But then when I tried the correct one (gamebattle) that gave me no sound or video.

I switched back to mgba and I'm testing again now.

one other quick question. I noticed that the editor only has spots for 5 videotapes (well 6 but videotape 5 is listed twice). But there are a lot more videotapes than 5 in the room / around the areas. How do you edit the others?

It sounds like you XML files might have been replaced by out of date ones. I suspect that you've downloaded a pack that has severely out of date XML files. If you're not seeing the 10 VHS Tapes like this picture, then you may need to update them. Could you also confirm for me that you have 9 GameBro's listed in the Arcade Builder?

Inside New Retro Arcade's Content folder are a few XML files that have the word default in them. You can save copies of these files, remove the word "default" from them and use them to replace your existing XML files so you can bring them up to date with the latest format. ArcadeMusic contains the VHS Tapes while ArcadeCartridges is for the gamebros. I suggest you replace both these files and try again with the gamebatte core.

Strangely I have TEN Gamebros but only 6 videos (with number 5 being repeated twice). Meanwhile I have 29 tapes. I'm not sure if that is right. I'm verifying my game via Steam to see if that helps.

I finally got one of the portables to work using the mgba libretto when it seems like it actually should have used the gamebattle one. None of the others work, though.
