Is there a way to get Cheats to work with mame_2014/2015/2016 cores?
I keep trying to use the cheats menu in NRA and it won't show up, but when i finally learned that you had to use the MAME core, it crashed my game without fail each time.

So is there a way to use cheats with the newest mame cores like 2016? Or do i need to wait for an update?

May I ask which mame core you are using and what ROMs you are trying to play?

I know that the mame_2014 core has an emulation option named 'mame2014_cheats_enable' but I don't exactly know where to put my cheat files. I'm trying to figure that out right now.

i was using both mame and mame_2014 core to try to get the game to work.

Do you know where the "mame2014_cheats_enable" option is? couldn't find it in the Arcadeoptions.xml file or anything.

Whenever you load a certain core, the emulator options will output to "New Retro Arcade Neon\NewRetroArcade\Saved\OutputEmulatorOptions.txt"

From there you edit ArcadeEmulatorOptions.XML with the options you want to enable. I've included an example below.

Could you please tell me the EXACT filename of the ROM you are trying to run? I can use the filename to look up the ROM's details and see if you are missing any required ROM files.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <EmulatorOptions> <mame2014_hide_nagscreen value="enabled" /> <mame2014_hide_infoscreen value="enabled" /> <mame2014_hide_warnings value="enabled" /> <mame2014_cheats_enable value="enabled" /> <ngp_language value="english" />

I tried the code and the cheat menu still won't appear. The roms are working fine for mame2014, but nothing else will.

Do i need to redownload mame2014 to a newer version? Or is it just glitched?

I'm still in the process of figuring out where cheat.dat needs to go. I haven't come up with anything as of yet.

Are you still having trouble getting specific ROMs working? If you are unsure of which version of MAME you are running, you can always download the latest cores in the Arcade Builder guide. If you're trying to run ROMs for another system, I can help with that as well.

I might be able to help you further if I knew what games you were trying to use cheats in. If it is a game that unlocks characters after a period of time, such as Tekken or Mortal Kombat 3, I could share nvram data with the unlocked characters.

i was trying to get cheats for, say, TMNT Turtles in Time just to test to see if they worked, and Splatterhouse (maybe Raiden DX as well)

The roms are running fine, all the ones i own anyway, the cheats are the only thing that aren't showing up.

Whenever i hit TAB the cheat menu doesn't even show up at all.

The cheats are preconfigured with the full version of the Arcade Manager. I'll check out the exact setup and share with you Vermillion as I can't remember off the top of my head where I placed the cheats file. I'm pretty sure it is still in the compressed format either zip or 7z in the roms or roms/mame directory.

Thanks Nabeday. Much appreciated :steamhappy:

So I downloaded the manager, and enabled cheats. The menu still didn't pop up at all.

Do I need to put the cheats in another folder,

Ok, it turns out that there is a missing file is in the latest Arcade Manager pack. The file you require is cheat.7z.

In the pack there is the following folder & file;

\Content\Emulators\mame\cheat.7z

All you need to do is copy that folder so that the path is as follows;

\Content\Emulators\mame2014\cheat.7z

This will enable the cheats on the mame2014 core. Make sure the cheats are enabled as per Vemillion's instructions above if you are not using the Arcade Manager to automatically set these.
