Sadly this game genre is very niche and very few studios take the risk to buy the IP to work on it. Mimimi studio has done a great job and there is also Triskell Interactive doing a remake of Pharaoh (city builder game back from the late 90s early 00s, cant remember exactly). If those remakes/sequel make enough noise and sales, new players could be interested in this type of games and like the market rules implies : if there is a demand, there will be an offer.
Mimimi didn't buy any Desperados license, the license belongs to THQNordic and Mimimi was asked to develop the game after they demonstrated their skills with their previews RTT game Shadow Tactics. The next RTT game by Mimimi will completely be by them, no other IP or license, all freedom to them. While I find all the RTT settings in previous RTT games interesting, which are all historical settings, I hope this time they come up with something unique and fresh, like a fantasy setting or a dystopian future setting. As long as it works with the RTT formula this would be a great change. We will now in 2 years or so...
