Overwrite Savegames and Quick Save/Load Features
Really wish I could overwrite existing save games. I have a method of saving games I always use but can't do it with this game since I can't overwrite saves. A quick save and quick load feature would be nice too.

not sure what you mean exactly as we can save over any file we like. The game also has a Quicksave [F5] and a Quickload [F9] ... but i would advise against using Quickload [F9] as it, in my experience, like to load your Quicksave but likes to remember stuff that should not have been preserved.

For example, I was in a Story mission a bit ago ... did a fight and killed the mobs, but decided to hit [F9] ... not sure why I wanted to reload, but when i did and when iy loaded up it remember I killed stuff even though I Quicksaved before the fight ... this broke the mission and I have to reload a manual save. Anyhow use [F9] with caution ... seen it act stupid on a couple occasions.

Well, I wondered if something was wrong. When I select a game to overwrite, it gives me a funky new name that is kind of a mix of the old name and they way it automatically names new saves, and saves to that, instead of overwriting the old save game. Pretty sure the old file still there, but just seems to give me a different starting point for the save game's name. Maybe it does replace the old one. I'll look a little closer next time.

F5/F9 is pretty consistent with quick saves and I checked the controls section but didn't see them listed. Not sure where it's documented all the different commands that aren't on the controls list that can be changed. These probably can't so that's why they don't show up there. Thanks for replying.

I just discovered [F9] on accident to be honest {was trying to hit [F5] but hit too far over [crappy typist]} ... but you are right in that it is not listed. Quicksave speaks for itself as we get a dedicated file for it that cannot be deleted in-game {only over written}.

Yeah the naming can be odd ... you just have to take control of it. How many files would you like to make? When you go to manually save a game just select any you desire. If already named, then all you will see is that names and a timestamp. You will not need to renames it every time. Only when you hit "New Save" will it make a new file.

It is true if you delete a file it will still be in your folder ... until the game decides to reuse that number and overwrites it. Had this happen when I had a crash that corrupted my .xml file. This causes all my files to be seemingly be deleted {save behavior as if I had deleted them all manually}. The Developer helped me with instructions on how to get it to see files again ... after I blew the opportunity to just use the back-up .xml as I did not know any better.

Becasue of this I simple lost a lot of old files. I used his instruction to rescue my main file at the time ... but as new saves were made going forward ... old ones were lost. I did not know better. But yeah deleted files are not gone until the game uses the number again and will overwrite the old {unless you intervene }.

Hmm, sounds like I need to investigate this a bit more. I thought it was the name of the savegame that was the file, but seems there's something else going on, like a mapping from the name to a savegame file. Bit more complicated than it really needs to be, so I think I'd keep this suggestion open to have a clearer, safer savegame mechanism.
