Let's take Archimedius for example. There are many planets and other things in the System. Mostly there is no need for a graphical representation, as long as you understand what it being show.
Each Orbit is given a name, usually like Archimedius I or Archimedius VII. The closest orbit is probably Archimedius 1, then keep counting outward.
If an Orbit has a Planet with another important Base or location on that Planet in that Orbit, or in that Asteroid Group in that Orbit, you will see another name indented into it.
So, for example, you have maybe Archimedius III and then indented a bit underneath it is Herzog Mining.
Given all that, just by clicking on Archimedius either on the System or Sector Map, or by doing so in Space from your Ship in the 3D upper left, you get this list of the orbits in the system.
This is what Zod Rau is basically saying -- if you understand my post, you understand there is no much need for a graphical representation, which is actually in full glorious 3D anyway from using the Camera around the Ship. Otherwise, just use the list of Orbits and Planets by clicking on Archimedius (the System or Star name).
I don't understand. There already is a System Map? How do I access it?
You're on your ship sitting in space. Right mouse hold and drag for camera movement. Move the camera straight up. Then left click near the top of your screen, which orients your ship into a vertical posture. Engage microwarp to rapidly gain some altitude and then use the camera view to look down. I think that's pretty close to the view you are seeking. Or you could go down instead. It's space. (don't beat yourself up about not realizing it - Most players don't, since everything happens on the plane you start out on)
I always do my incursions from a higher altitude. That way if I'm called across the system, I can cross at altitude, right over the sun, instead of have to detour around it.
As for waypoints, there aren't any to set, so there is no autopilot. You click on a direction and go. Or you click on a target and go. Or click on a beacon and go.
