Combat- Space or otherwise
I am at the point in the story where I have killed off all the phages and can buy the FTL but don't have the money. The game wants me to do space combat. I suck at it or the game is just too hard for my tastes with space combat. Are there some land fight scenerios that I can do to build up wealth ? If not this games done for me.

There's an infinitely repeatable land dungeon right in the first system. You have to talk to a guy on the trading station about it. Running one difficult mission (which are really easy) tends to get about 150k credits

I did that- ty . I am trying to find my way back to him. I cannot highlight where to fly too at this time. The game has bugged out and wants me to ONLY fly to the lvl 20 area (last quest in the starting area). When I go into my menu of places to fly it won't let me highlight anything. It all stays white. At least when I had a quest it would go yellow/green then highlight out in space for me.
I still have the side quests of randomly killing pirates around certain planets- but there again, I cannot highlight any of them and fly to them. I have got better at space combat though. I'm finally winning some fights. I just need to get the "highlight" option to work in my menus of places to fly/ go too. I got my FTL drive and cannot go to the next area. I guess its cause I'm not lvl 20 ? If not, thats bugged for me as well.

Hi Godsdemon 03 - In space, you should be able to open the system objects menu in the upper left of the screen by clicking the bar (small mouse icon). This will display a list of all system objects. You can then select objects from that list and details will be shown in the upper right of the screen. Selecting a planet in space should also open the system object menu.

If you have a FTL drive and it is equipped in the FTL drive slot of your ship, you should see a new icon below the upper left menu as long as you are not in space combat or micro-warping. Clicking that icon will send you to FTL space so you can travel to other star systems. You can enter FTL space at any level as long as the FTL drive is equipped.

The facility is located on Achmedius VIII. To get there you need to be in the Achmedius system.
1) Select the upper left menu to open it.
2) Select Achmedius VIII - the planet surface menu will appear in the upper right. A arrow will be displayed giving you a general sense of the direction to fly.
3) Note that the mysterious research station is highlighted on the planetary map.
4) Fly to that planet by selecting the approach icon under the upper right target menu and press "R" to micro warp. Steer as needed around planets etc.
5) When you get close to the planet, a new icon will be displayed below the upper right menu if that planet is selected. Land and you can take missions there.

If you cannot select items in the upper left menu, something is wrong with the install. You may need to verify your files. If that does not fix the issue, please send your log per the instructions in this post and I will take a look:

There is a lot of info available in the in-game help menu. Press "H" and then select "GUIDE" at the top of that screen. You can also post here and usually get an answer.

As far as space combat, yes improvements are needed and I will be looking into it in the future. Pause

is very helpful as you can target ships, adjust shields, scan ships etc. while paused.

I want to pipe in here. Don't get discouraged. I sucked at space combat at first too. It was because I didn't know what I was doing.

in outter space while in "ship flying around mode" press the "J" key - this will open up the "Crew Roster" page...notice the lower right quadrant. This is where you assign your crew members to SPECIFIC "ship" duties. Set them once and let them roll until their skill it at 100 and only then maybe change to a new crew member if you feel like it.
Notice there are "5" slots, so ya you will need to hire one more person for the repair position. Repair crew member will auto repair ship so you do not have to pay for repairs at star ports.

To make space fights easy, when you get into a fight do this:
1. Press "P" key to pause.
2. Make sure your shields and weapons are on. Look at the bottom center. 2 icons. juuustttt to the right of the 0%. You can click those and they will light up. The blue "paw" looking one is shields the crosshairs looking one is weapons. Light them up.
3. ONLY when they are on...then... look at those blue, red, and green bars. Red is armor, that just is an uncontrollable meter. For Green Thrust and Blue shields you will see like a green "dial" thingy...you can click and drag it...make sure it is full over to the right for now. Right = full power.
4. Left click a ship you want to attack.
5. Press "P" unpause.
6. Center far right is an arrow, thats the "Follow" button but it's titled "Approach". Keep clicking that. That will auto course correct your ship to follow your target. This is huge because early in the game the 3d up/down can really mess you up, and the follow button will not only turn the ship but will also move you up and down.
7. Press space bar to "thrust" to get closer to the enemy ship...try to keep as close as possible but in any case less than 250 away in early stages.
8. Mouse wheel out to zoom out and adjust camera for a top down view. This is least disorientating in the beginning.
9. Make sure in lower left all the weapon icons are spinning round and round with a green ring....if not, they are not firing, you are either too far away (if they are red ring), or, they are not on. Clicking the RED crosshairs target icon near the Approach/Follow arrow will turn on weapons.

The Pharris Mace is a good ship you can smack all ships in the beginning.

Hope this helps.

Pro Tip: Scan all ships this is how you build up Electronics skill. You can only scan planets and ships once. So scan away. Defeating a ship will give all crew members 3 points in their ship skill.

I've got a little better with space combat since the post. I still can't make the money needed to upgrade ships for the 7+8 mil or whatever. I thought I saw an option to board and take over a ship? If thats not in there could you add it as a work around to blowing ships up ? I'd prefer to take ships and sell them off or have a larger crew for the multiple ships if possible.

Making 7~8M money is not hard.
The random incursion missions and selling scan data for different nations are good money for early game.

Then buy some excavating drones when you can afford. (They are worthy because they provide continuous income while you are making other money)

'Boarding ship and then sell it' and 'random ground missions' are inefficient for a slow player like me:steammocking:. But the former one is OK if you are fast. (and it has a good immersion experience:winter2019happysnowman:)

At last, when you have 1~2M. go to do buy-and-sell.
Try low amount but high price difference per unit goods.(platium bar, gold bar, the banned goods are way better)
Then you have your 7~8M.

(Since you are not like space combat, you could only board 2 ships and sell them, then buy some drones, then keep doing ground missions. And do trades earlier.)
(space combat it's not hard tbh, the beginning ship is good for fight. GL)

One other thing, your ship cargo is your friend, after every ship fight you "should" be getting looted ship parts automatically. They are really valuable and you can sell to any merchant. Even a basic turret...damaged...will get you 8k. Other parts will get you 50k, and eventually several hundred-K each...post back on the boards when you are ready to do crafting and I will tell you how to make billions.

Lastly, looted ship parts are not only good for selling but also swapping on your ship for better parts/upgrades. Basic>Exceptional>Rare>Legendary>Epic. Epic ship parts "appear" to be a craft only item for now. Epic crew equipment can be dropped or purchased.
JODEGAFUN Oct 7, 2021 @ 1:51pm
The only problem is you do not need billions, a behemoth is the highest invest you can do, and if you can craft only rare gear it is allready near unbeatable (i better do not talk about full epic, trash skull market exetor havy fighter in less than 30 secounds on hardest difficult and he do not even drop your shields in any remarkable amount).
Hope somewhere in the future you can really sink money in some usefull thinks.
