Current combat system is like there.
Heh, that could be it.
Before the "Space" houses had actual Faction Vendors ... well then it was rough and you could still save up money for a nice ship first, but all the rest had to be looted.
Anyhow many here will help with specific questions or tactics. There is no "correct" way per se ... but I do feel my method was more fruitful than "wingin' it".
This buys me the time to bring up my shields and weapons online ("F" and "G" buttons), select the enemy ship and click at the cross-sight to order my ship to attack.
As soon as I unpause the game again, I give the order to scan that ship - if I haven't done so already - to know what kind of weapons I'm dealing with.
Next is to use WASD to keep moving, as the ship is usually at a full stop when you're under attack; even if you were moving before.
I'll keep one finger close to "T" to use chaff in case the enemy has one or more missile launchers and the one using the W will also use "Q" and "E" to move the directional shield so that one charges up to 100% fastest.
And given that some ships will try to move away the moment you turn out to have the upper hand, one finger close to the space bar to use the booster once in a while. How often and how long depends at the kind of ship I'm using, as some ships don't deplete the capacitor, while others do when using that after burner boost thingy.
After that it's just a matter of keeping hammering at the enemy's shield until they're down. At that point I pause the game again, so I can switch to the more precise attacks.
Usually that's weapons first, followed by engines - and doing a full stop on my ship after that - and systems
The reason I'm doing that, is that a ship being dead in the water, but still able to fire at me, is a lot harder to deal with as a ship that's able to run away but can't damage me.
After all three sub-systems are gone, it's time for a boarding action.
In case I'm joining a fight started by the AI against another AI, the attacking of the sub-systems doesn't happen; however, it's a great opportunity to learn the way space combat happens; as you got an "ally" to help you.
Basically it's the same thing; bring weapons and shields online, select the ship, scan it, fire at it until it's destroyed. And often giving you some loot by a floating chest as well.
Out of the two, I advise to do the second one first, so you'd get some feeling about how things are going. You could even save the game prior to the fight so you can reload and use it for practice.
One last piece of advise;
Chaff is used by pressing the "T"-key, while the microwarp drive is activated by pressing the "R"-key.
Since they're quite often close to one another, I advise to put the micro-warp drive activation at another key (I used the "M" key for that) so you won't jump into a warp flight and end up Jhemm knows how far from the fight because you pushed the wrong button.
Hope this helps!
Thorin
Thanks! I'll try all of that.
At first i could not win any space battle at all, then i bought heavy fighter for 10 mil bought
all blue (rare )equipment and i could fight 3-4 fighter without ever loosing shield on lowest difficulty.
You can disable incursions and just go FTL to run away until you earn enough money to buy Heavy fighter.
At lvl 20 for test i went to 40+ lvl zone and i was able to beat 3 fighter there with full rare equipment.
You can earn credits fairly easy in this game .
It just annoys me to have to Ignore part of the game, I've started to get an understanding of it but I greatly prefer the ground part. Working on getting a pile of cash.
In all fairness, but you don't even need a heavy fighter.
The Pharris Mace AK-7 that's available as one of the starting options works great. And it certainly is a whole lotta better as the Trading or Exploration ship which are offered as starting options.
Even with the basic (stock) items the AK-7 starts with, it's more powerful as a lot of ships you encounter early on. And it won't deplete your capacitor the moment you use your afterburners.
For cash, simply follow the main story line. The items you pick up in the Aznari ruins sell off a lot better as anything else you find. Especially considering you will most likely scrap all of the other loot you get to bring up your salvaging and repairing skill.
