The only ships you could get would require a trade in. At this point you are better off just mining with the starter ship or even better upgrading it and fighting.

There's a light merchant ship called the Arden that's cheap and quite effective at mining. It has a fair amount of time on an expedition - active mining while manually collecting from a handful of drones. while using the refinery. I was bringing in over 500,000 credits per haul. (selling refined ore and rare earth minerals only.)

how do i upgrade it?
Mishar Jul 30, 2019 @ 11:41pm
they mean weapon and system upgrade from stock to higher rarity. and then get money by taking incursion mission and selling the loot.

about mining ship with patince save for the basilisk cg-1 then you will get very fast money from mining.
later then go for fortune cg-5 . then you will need alot money for the monster called Behemoth crg-2.

Oh God, don't do mining. It's boring, very time consuming and just not that profitable. If you want to use merchant ships, use them for trading or smuggling.
Since you only have 200k, just fit your starter ship (that is actually really good) with better weapons and gear. Wait in a system with a station (hostile ones are better) and start farming enemy ships. You'll find that you'll make more money, much faster by killing ships and looting them.

at beginning fighting has higher yield but later with mining skill up you get alot more from mining. iam at skill 100 around 30 minits to clear a asteroid field with my behemoth.
and i only need behemoth i can use it as battleship aswell with it 4 heavy turrent and 2 heavy missle launcher. and around 7k shield i dont fear any enemy.
AtmaDarkwolf Jul 31, 2019 @ 4:05am
yes, behemoth is a sleeping beast. You can watch tv on the 2nd monitor while you lazily zap roids, all while ignoring any enemy who chooses to attack you (or kill them, who cares) since if fully geared with legendary, i doubt anything can even put a dent in it's shields.

That's only partially true. Once you get to mining 40 and use an upgraded Basilisk (or heavier ship) mining far surpasses fighting for drops and edges out trading for money. It does take a long time to get there though. If you have a huge amount to invest and a large cargo smuggling does slightly better for a while.

Behemoth seems to be too slow to become really universal ship as we can't get enough piloting yet to compensate lack of speed.
Mishar Jul 31, 2019 @ 7:36am
yeah behemoth is slow has terible turning but you can sit in a enemy system mining and fight off attacker . without worry to get crushed. every heavy fighter would hit sooner or later the breaking point.
you can compare:

Interceptor/light attacker =fighter plane
Heavy fighter =destroyer
light cargo=support tender
medium cargo=light cruiser-Heavy cruiser
Behemoth=battleship

and compared at end all fighting ship only good for fighting and low cargo runs.
while bigger cargo ship can do more only drawback is speed. and with beacon port its not so bad like without.

Behemoth is exelent mining platform and u really can fight in it, if u can catch ur target of course. It just is not universal.

Atlas is better candidate on jack-of-all-trades role imho, but it is not that good miner/combatant.
Mishar Jul 31, 2019 @ 10:27am
yeah catching running target its almost impossible but when doing incursion or get attack there is no running target ^^ but there will sure some change so thats it better to have more different ships. atm i only need behemoth and fast explorer to get beacon fast placed XD

BTW Severin seems to be as good as Arden to me, but slightly cheaper.

Also, horizon/raven are relatively cheap and have much more cargo space, but with their turret slots they will need help of drones to fill it.

I would not agree that Atlas is not that good as miner, it is currently on second place just after Behemoth, his 5 turret slots make it very efficient miner with 7 miner beam (Behemoth has one mining beam more than that only) Atlas has very good shield and is much much more faster and agile. In combat situation Atlas setup makes it a bad choice for fight, it lack heavy missile support that usually deliver a nice hit to ship hull after removing shields from enemy.
If You plan to do some exploring or trading/smugling Atlas is still one of the best option.

I meant only that it is not as good as behemoth.

And I have some thoughts how to outfit it for combat - like close range plasma cannon set up. I just need some more credits to test it.

BTW if u won't fight back, enemies will eventually ram u to death - even in behemoth, as ramming dmg seems to be % and combat is often 3 to 1.
