-Active as well as engaging developer that is very translucent with his plans for this title
-Active deployment of updates that are often substantial
-Already has more than enough content to justify the price point
-A great developer that deserves the support
It is not a finished title and it still is in EA status but I have full faith that it will be fully realized, a statement I have never made about any EA title except Subnautica. So yes, grab it and help support the title. It will only get better, longer, and of course have replayability. A patch was recently deployed that opened up a large space portion of the game. I can not answer the hours of content there but more than enough to hit 'Buy' in my opinion.
Happy gaming.
Hmm...I'm even more tempted now heh, thanks for the reply!
So..You both recommend it even in the pre-alpha?
Right...I think I'm going to buy it! Thanks guys!
Wait what?...400 hours?How!?
40+ year old gamer here, for what that is worth, and I will tell you that once finished I think he (the dev) could easily charge more. I look at it as helping him develop the game by investing in it, and he is devlivering. I too have been burned by EA titles, I can say with near certainty that I believe this title will be realized and that you will not regret helping invest in this title.
My .02 and I hope to see the little mouse pad next to your name but if not I understand brother. This age of EA titles is a bit crazy but like Subnautica and a fellow poster mentioned The Forest, this is a good one.
You will reach the current level cap and max skills way before that right now, but you can keep playing if you want to. I think to hit the level and skill cap for all skills including space combat it would take well over 1000 hours right now - though I'm not sure - I don't think anyone has reached the current cap. And that is only for one team in your crew, though you can hire more mercs and split them between space and ground combat or have two separate ground teams.
More story will be coming, right now there is around 10 hours of story content depending on how you play (the Prologue). The start of the game is not really a tutorial, though some call it that. It is the Prologue that introduces you to the back story of the game and how you arrive in the starter system, Achmedius. From there it's up to you what you do and how you do it. You can skip the Prologue and take a shortened path to get to space, though you will need to defeat a boss.
More missions types will be coming (assault, reconnaissance, defense, search and destroy etc.)
More features like trading, better mining system, devices etc. - You can see the roadmap and whats next pinned posts in this forum.
Scripted faction missions will be coming during Alpha/Beta.
I've heard some players who are waiting to play the game from beginning to the end. That would only be relevant if you want to play the game story from beginning to end. There really is no end to the game as missions would be generated forever, even after you take missions in every system in the game. I'll be adding more goals, world bosses and a threat from the core of the Universe that will be a constant challenge to help players set more concrete goals and achievements. Completionists will struggle with this game, though when the story is finished I guess you could consider finishing all of the story content and side missions complete.
There will be no save-game wipes. The game uses a data driven MMO type save game system. Changes to data if needed are just applied to your existing save data.
The game is about the journey, not the end. I think some players will struggle with this wanting to get the best ship, the best gear and to level as fast as possible. Others will enjoy the journey.
Just drank my first cup of coffee so I'm rambling a bit here.
Right...Definitely wasn't expecting a reply from the dev!
I did read the pinned posts already and it seems like the game will only get better!
Story is nice but I actually prefer sandbox gameplay so that seems great too!
1000 hours to reach the level cap...Well, if I can get around 30-50 hours from a game then I'm happy!
No save game wipes is quite rare for an EA game too.
I want to thank you for such a detailed reply, and if I can, I'd like to ask one more thing.
I understand the ground combat is a classic mouse controlled turn-based RPG combat but how does the space combat work?
