Epic schematic unlock (detailed) breakdown 1300-1500 salvages
I decided to craft 100 legendary personal shields and then salvage them 3 times (save/load) to see how much of a gain I get for schematic EXP to unlock the epic schematic.

I also salvaged a single EPIC looted shield to see how much progress/EXP I get.

See attached image - this is the summary of my findings....

This is a breakdown of progress expectations for unlocking an EPIC schematic - I assume all epic schematic unlocks are the same, however to be clear this is for progress unlocking Epic personal shield.

Summary -
---assumes 100 crafting and salvage with best perks assigned (I.E. bonus to schematic unlock exp) - unknown if a better quality crafted item has better chance to award schematic exp/progress. The 100 I used were at least 90 of 100 100% quality.
---Approx 1300-1500 legendary "crafted" shields are required to unlock the epic shield schematic
---Salvaging a looted EPIC item yields approximately the same as salvaging 10 legendary shields (not as good as I had hoped. X50 seems more balanced as obtaining EPIC gear is tough...at least for EPIC ship gear which seems non-existent.)
---With 3 tries (save/load) of salvaging 100 legendary shields, it is NOT the same EXP result each time. Notice #5 in the image, it awarded substantially more EXP.
---Best to just salvage your crafted gear, and then craft more rather than save/scum to get best salvage EXP result. It will be too time consuming to repeat the process, spend the time to craft more items.
---To unlock Legendary schematic...best I can estimate as of now is approx 1000-1200 crafted salvages. So not half, more like 75-85% of amount needed for higher tier.
---in the image, the red outlined blue boxes are supposed to be the equivalent "distance" the green bar moved after the best/#5 salvage attempt. I staggered them with the boxes slightly overlapped...that may have skewed the results to make the amount of salvages needed to be a bit less than what they should be.
---Taking into account my graphical errors, and the randomness of EXP/schematic unlock progress, I went with 1300-1500. Feel free to interpret the data differently, however it's not (sorry to say) 500 lol.
---Using a combo of mouse clicks and ENTER key staggered/spamming clicks to create a single crafted item....this allows to craft a bit quicker...end the craft using mouse to avoid going "over" and resetting quality.
---aprox 6.5 min to craft 100 items.
---approx - 53 seconds to salvage 100 items with uncapped frame rate (hardware depending maybe)
--- total time to unlock an EPIC schematic starting at 0% assuming no breaks and laser focused crafting/salvaging carpo-tunnel spam clicking lol- 75min-96min

I hope this helps. (I had too much time on my hands today...your gain)

It is, only way to get epic ship gear, and belive me a behemoth with full epic ship gear is insane, just talk about 11K+ shields and 30% dmg reduction+ 4 laser/ion canons with 20+ dps each+ 2 missiles with 15+ dps each (doubles on hull). Takes down a exetor havy fighter with skull mark in less than 30 secounds on hardest combat setting.
You need more time because your hand needs really a pause, the estimated time is for an automated process, really belive me.
I would aime for ship wapons, ship shields and electronics. Personal wapons like rifles are not worth, a rifle get only more range on epic, legendary is allready top, you do not need 65+ range, Personal armor on the other hand is very valuable, even legendary outclass any epic you can get (bought one with gold ore token) 10+ on 3 attributes is insane compared to the bought versions.

I must admit, i rate it aproximately by personal feeling, between 1000 and 1500 was not bad. But not every shema is worth it.

Shows some example why you want epic gear, just insane to have a havy wapon with high crit rate. I post it on 4th may this year to show why crafting is the most op skill.
82% crit rate, and i have not even 60+ skills.

meh...too much grind.
Okies Nov 23, 2021 @ 4:34pm
Ok, this is a huge grind fest, but I'm willing to put the time in it... But my issue is... I unlock legendary blueprints by doing this.... but I lack the legendary materials to actually craft... How do I get these?

It would be nice if we could combine lower tier materials into higher ones. What the conversion rate would be, I don't know, but I have hundreds of lower tier materials, and almost no higher tier ones.

You will always gets some materials be dismantling. If you scrap for example 100 legendaries to reach epic shemata, you will get some epic material to. Going this road i had 200-300 epic crafting materials as i were able to start actually crafting epics. Just remember it gives top tier epics and trash tier epics (which are not worth the efford)

ah, didn't know that. that helps. Now I just need to solve my refined iron deficiency, as it seems that is used the most in crafting.

Question about your crafting method for raising to epic quality did you just straight up craft 100 items no extra materials or did you click on each pop up as they came up?

As you asked in an older thread not sure they will ever reply. Was old new to me then, but pretty accurate. And likely still today.

Earning Epic is separated into Ground and Space. In Space Epics do not drop so the player must first learn the Legendary Schematic, then craft ~1000, say FTLs, Salvage them and Epic will unlock. So for any Epic you want in Space you must first craft/acquire ~1000 Legendary items and Salvage them. Crafting is the most likely way. You will not be saving enough Tokens {ever} to buy 1000 of a single Ship item to Salvage lol. Technically possible if you want to spend years at it lol. So crafting basically.

You do space combat until the Legendary Schematic drops {what I would do} ... or you can always Salvage up the tiers to Legendary. There can be a lot of Space Loot, so not an improbable route ... or if for some reason bad luck denies you a schematic etc. But they are all usually given reasonably fast in my opinion. Even with them all you need resources and some planning ... Mining thoughts etc.

You will not need a massive amount of Rare Earths as these are only needed when you care about what you are crafting. When crafting ~1000 to unlock an Epic, quality does not matter nor which crew member is crafting it or their Crafting lvl. Only when you care do those things matter ... you know for that stuff you will make for your own use later. You will need a lot of ore though ... a lot. So will need a decent cargo.

For the ground it is a lot easier since Epics can drop as loot. Albeit way more rare ... even Epic Schematics can drop on the ground. So to unlock Epic on the ground you either loot ~100 Epic, say Rifles, and Salvage them. Or, like Space, Salvage ~1000 Legendary Rifles to unlock it. But on the ground that will not be necessary as you will be salvaging both along the way so should not be too bad. As above maybe you will get lucky and loot an Epic Schematic saving any work. Though Salvaging supports Repair so you will be Salvaging anyways.

Oh and they all must be crafted 1 at a time ... in case you were asking that lol. Making 100 at once would be "cheating" lol ... maybe a dream.

You can salvage up to legendary without ever have a drop. Epic ist quite a much longer road. But it is an insane power boost for some items.

Totally. Especially with armor since loot drops drop at the same rate as any other Legendary, but there are not multiple types of armor like with weapons. So most player should have even up to Epic unlocked via Savlage.

It is also possible to never Salvage anything at all and get all the schematics over time as drops {up to Legendary in Space}. There is more than one way to "skin a cat".

As you say the player can indeed Salvage up the tiers ... super easy for armor as stated. Repair may suffer if little to no Salvaging is done ... unless the player uses boarded ships exclusively to raise Salvage and Repair eliminating the need to Salvage junk and gear for components.

Be creative I say ... have fun with whatever way you are cool with. There are "efficient way" to check multiple boxes as you go ... but that is up to the player.
