You need more time because your hand needs really a pause, the estimated time is for an automated process, really belive me.
I would aime for ship wapons, ship shields and electronics. Personal wapons like rifles are not worth, a rifle get only more range on epic, legendary is allready top, you do not need 65+ range, Personal armor on the other hand is very valuable, even legendary outclass any epic you can get (bought one with gold ore token) 10+ on 3 attributes is insane compared to the bought versions.
Shows some example why you want epic gear, just insane to have a havy wapon with high crit rate. I post it on 4th may this year to show why crafting is the most op skill.
82% crit rate, and i have not even 60+ skills.
It would be nice if we could combine lower tier materials into higher ones. What the conversion rate would be, I don't know, but I have hundreds of lower tier materials, and almost no higher tier ones.
As you asked in an older thread not sure they will ever reply. Was old new to me then, but pretty accurate. And likely still today.
Earning Epic is separated into Ground and Space. In Space Epics do not drop so the player must first learn the Legendary Schematic, then craft ~1000, say FTLs, Salvage them and Epic will unlock. So for any Epic you want in Space you must first craft/acquire ~1000 Legendary items and Salvage them. Crafting is the most likely way. You will not be saving enough Tokens {ever} to buy 1000 of a single Ship item to Salvage lol. Technically possible if you want to spend years at it lol. So crafting basically.
You do space combat until the Legendary Schematic drops {what I would do} ... or you can always Salvage up the tiers to Legendary. There can be a lot of Space Loot, so not an improbable route ... or if for some reason bad luck denies you a schematic etc. But they are all usually given reasonably fast in my opinion. Even with them all you need resources and some planning ... Mining thoughts etc.
You will not need a massive amount of Rare Earths as these are only needed when you care about what you are crafting. When crafting ~1000 to unlock an Epic, quality does not matter nor which crew member is crafting it or their Crafting lvl. Only when you care do those things matter ... you know for that stuff you will make for your own use later. You will need a lot of ore though ... a lot. So will need a decent cargo.
For the ground it is a lot easier since Epics can drop as loot. Albeit way more rare ... even Epic Schematics can drop on the ground. So to unlock Epic on the ground you either loot ~100 Epic, say Rifles, and Salvage them. Or, like Space, Salvage ~1000 Legendary Rifles to unlock it. But on the ground that will not be necessary as you will be salvaging both along the way so should not be too bad. As above maybe you will get lucky and loot an Epic Schematic saving any work. Though Salvaging supports Repair so you will be Salvaging anyways.
Oh and they all must be crafted 1 at a time ... in case you were asking that lol. Making 100 at once would be "cheating" lol ... maybe a dream.
Totally. Especially with armor since loot drops drop at the same rate as any other Legendary, but there are not multiple types of armor like with weapons. So most player should have even up to Epic unlocked via Savlage.
It is also possible to never Salvage anything at all and get all the schematics over time as drops {up to Legendary in Space}. There is more than one way to "skin a cat".
As you say the player can indeed Salvage up the tiers ... super easy for armor as stated. Repair may suffer if little to no Salvaging is done ... unless the player uses boarded ships exclusively to raise Salvage and Repair eliminating the need to Salvage junk and gear for components.
Be creative I say ... have fun with whatever way you are cool with. There are "efficient way" to check multiple boxes as you go ... but that is up to the player.
