Question on charisma

Is there (or will there) be any reason to raise this stat for anyone other than my main character? When there are more reasons to have this stat, will factions and vendors and such look at the charisma of the character with the highest amount, the character talking to them, the entire team's? Or any or all of the above, depending on the type of situation? (I guess it's kind of neat to think of needing to create a special "diplomat" crewmember for certain high-level situations.)

according to charisma help, it also applies a passive bonus to action queue order check in ground combat for that character

Going through today's big patch notes, it seems qcharmicheal's above reply is no longer the case!

From the patch notes:

"Closest team member interaction: When interacting with objects in the environment, the closest team member to that object, NPC, chest, loot object etc. will always interact. This resolves situations where you may be blocked getting to the object and need to move your team members around. There are a couple of important notes here:
1) When interacting with vendors, regardless of who selects the vendor, the team member in your active team with the highest CHA will be used in vendor price calculations."

Though it's not related to this topic, it looks like use of hacking tools will follow the same logic:

"3) When hacking you will need to select the team member with the hacking tool. The closest team member will interact, however, the selected team member with the tool will actually hack the item, provide skill bonuses and receive the experience."

(if you're wondering what the '2)' list item is ... there isn't one, the list goes from 1) to 3) lol.)

At first the hacking change actually bothered the nerd in me for some reason, because I thought of it as a direct interface mechanism. But if you think about it, an electronic hacking tool, hundreds of years from now (thousands if you include cryosleep), will hopefully be less like a thieve's simple lockpick, and more like many remote electronic hacking tools that already exist in the 21st Century!

P.S. I'm an idiot, that's not the same logic at all with the hacking tool; it'll be important to remember that you'll need to remember to select the right team member to get their hacking skill's benefit (and dex???), meanwhile it doesn't matter who you have selected while looking to get a charisma boost to your price negotiations.

Makes me wonder if building a diplomat/negotiator type of character might really be a good idea at some point down the line, even if they aren't great at much else due to otherwise low stats. Hmmmmm.

If You plan to make nice money, high charisma character in team is a must. Luckily it may be any of merc You can hire, main character may (must) be simple frontliner (and because main character is the only person that must always be sticked to ground team it is unwise to waste leveling points on charisma)
