Khaal ATKR-4: JUST shy of power, with full legendary gears, to have full thrust, shields, etc with beams, but can STILL do it (just have to watch capacitor during long engagements) - 2 beams (both ion or 1ion+1laser) and 4 heavy missles make the dps this can dish out great. It's a good ship but compared to the 'cheaper' and 'lower class' version (below) its a bad investment. Has very low armor, low shields, low cargo, and just a smiddgen higher(not noticable) speed than the--
Exetor ATKR-7: Prob the best heavy fighter among them all, very respectable shield, armor, cargo space, can easily, with so much power to spare, slap on 2 heavy beams, 2 heavy missile and 2 light missiles, and never, ever bottom out. Can also tank a very, very long time. With decent sized cargo space, you can even run drones, pop merchants, etc, and collect a lot of stuff to sell. This was my money maker, and the first one i managed to gear up, but after having moved on from it and not being in it a while, is now currently my 'worse geared' ship, yet still easily out preforms any and all other heavies. It also costs a LOT less than the Khaal, yet is better than it in every single way.(except that tiny ♥♥♥ of extra speed, like 12 extra points between the two, and the slightly less dps due to having 2 light missile hard points.)
Corsair HATK-2: Man this thing is junk. First off its 'advertised as the fastest heavy.. which it is not. (Hammer is faster, idk why) and it is just plain 'bleh' in every other aspect. It's defiantly not worth buying unless your just tossing money away. It is also easily the ugliest of them all :P With even just a SINGLE beam, with full legendary gear, I was not able to keep the capacitor from bottoming out (it was even having difficulty with no beams, dev maybe look at the power gen of this one), it does not feel snappy(IE agile) nor do the shields or hull give any feeling of security, nor does it have any sizable cargo to do anything with it. It wasn't even fun flying.(IMO the time spent save-scumming to gear this in full leg gear was an absolute waste, wish i spent that time save-scumming for better gear for a diff ship lol)
Hammer ATKG-1: This one is decent, just below the Exetor imo, in general use. It is 'asymmetrical placement of turrets issue bothers me (2 missiles on 1 wing, 1 missile 1 turret on other, 1 missile, 1 turret placed center, instead of splitting each wing and center into 1 of each to balance out, but that's just me...) I thas decent armor, good shields, crap cargo(but enough for random space combat loot) and is quite agile and fast for it's size. It is ugly, but not as much as some (many) other ships. IMO about the only negitive thing about this ship is, for me, the turret/missile hard-point placements. (Asymmetrical things bother me, if the asymmetry is pointless.)
but as far as loot drops go, no. I was getting legendary gears from skullships at lv 3-4 i think.(Currently i have a warpdrive i got very early ingame that i still use cuz i've not found better)
As for my H-fighters favourite type, i like Pharris Hammer, 3h-turrets and 3h-launchers give it enough firepower to take down any single enemy. The only problem is low cargohold but as long if it is used as pure fighter there will be no problem at all.
If You prefer to take out enemies from far away choose Khaal instead, it's 4h-missile launchers accompaning with 2h-turrets(best result with ion type weapon) may cause very high damage from long distances. Unfortunatelly Khaal got weak point - low shields amount so it need a careful pilot.
Don't think any ship will have energy problems while mining, as mining lasers have a veeery long reload time. Besides u don't really need to max shields or thrust when mining.
Still, there may be problems with self defense.
I turn encounters down and accept one on a planet far away so I'm not harassed. I don't even turn the shields on when I mine.
So at level 50, I won't find a much better item than the legendary item I got at level 20 for the same ship?
EDIT:
Just remember that every item may have different stats with same rarity (ex. epic armor found at level 20 may be worse that found at level 50)
For example legendary warp cores for a ship may have a bottom limit of 1000 for the energy, and a top limit of 1500, but any legendary core will have a value from 1000-1500. Its just random. U might have found one at lv 1 that has a energy score of 1500, and even at lv 50 you will not find a better one (1500 being the max), but a RARE core for the same ship cannot ever have a value of 1000 for the same ship, since rare will have its own variance.
Basically, for ship A, a rare core cannot ever have values as good as or better than any legendary core for the same ship, but a legendary core COULD. Its all RNG dependent only on the ship its based for, and the rarity of the item.

Shields increased resistance to damagetypes randomroll for each type: (also higher shieldpoints available though ive not looked if theres some reliance on the quality but could be similar to the resistance)

Warp engines and FTL its tricky to find enough different ones to make a definite list so take that with a grain of salt: Taken for the Exetor i will give basestats too from when buying the basic ship
Warp engines: Increases in speed and most important main power:
Base power 2200
White ~275% max best found ~6100 might go up to 300% to make sense ~6600
Green ~387% max best found ~8520 might go up to 400% to make sense ~8800
Blue ~459% max best found ~10100 might go up to 500% to make sense ~11000
Gold ~590% max best found ~13000 might go up to 600% to make sense ~13200
Base speed 446
White 0-10% best found ~480
Green 10-15% best found ~500
Blue 15-20% best found ~520
Gold 20-25% best found ~545
FTL drives increase in FTL speed:
Base Speed 1317
White 0-10% best found 1431
Green 10-15% best found 1500
Blue 15-20% best found 1530 (should get up to ~1560 sadly too few found)
Gold 20-25% best found 1614
And on maintopic ...i have both Hammer and Exetor ...the Exetor being the main ship i use just because i prefer it more tanky.
I dont have much of a problem letting both of them run their beams but yes i cut down the enginepower either completely or at least half. The Hammer means i have to stop raiding enemy systems for shipdrops way earlier but having a little more stable punch because of the extra heavy turret while my exetor has the defensive power to withstand a lot more punishment but relying on getting those missles to connect a lot more well and the higher cargospace means i can stay for a longer time until its time to get home.
And last but not least i agree that an unsymmetric spaceship is ugly as hell.
Currently there is no epic gear to be found for ship equipment thats the reason why i only listed till gold/legendary. But if it follows the same rules as the increase between the former qualities you can already get a hint about where it will be at.
