Cannot refine ore.
Refining ores looks like broken, after mine ore and hit refine button dont run refining process. No idea whats wrong but basic ore refinery have mounted and i refine first time with no problem. On second try refine do nothing.

Hi promoob - You will need 25-28 raw ore of any one kind before the refinery will start. For each refined brick of ore, when starting out, the base requirement is 25 + possible waste.

It gets better over time with experience and perks - less waste overall, more ore refined and faster mining and refining.

Thanks man :)

Are different quantities required for some rare-earth metals? Because I've collected about half a dozen different varieties that don't process - such as praseodymium.

Rare earth minerals cannot be refined.

They are valuable though and can be traded on the Trade-Net or sold to vendors. Vendors always buy ore and refined ore below market value though, so it's best to gather these in cargo storage on a station and sell them in bulk on the Trade-Net. Rare earth minerals will also be used in crafting.

Hi, oh great Dev, will refined metals be used in crafting also, or will it only be rare earth minerals?

Hey limecooler - Yeah, refined metal will be needed.

--Scrapped components from all items (lots of these) - [Salvaging]
--Refined ore
--Rare earth minerals
--Skills
--Perks

All come together to make - better than "looted" or "purchased" gear.

Great, now I just need a place to store my scrap and salvage :-) :-) (hint, hint).

Im pretty sure you can already rent storage space on major trade stations.

That is for ship equipment and ore! I think he was talking about when we are able to scrap items into components.

I have already asked about this! He may give us something but says he wants us to have to make some hard choices on what we will sell/scrap/keep.I guess we will have to wait and see how it goes. :)

One of those massive 285,000,000cr cargo carriers ought to do the trick. I gotta get me one of those. Probably a year and a half at this rate. It's one of those major goals, like your first Fenrir or Charon in EvE.

That will only help if you stay in that one ...as when you swap ships you will carry over the stored cargo to the new one and not leaving it in the cargohold of the carrier ...so youll either loose what you have in cargohold thats over the capacity of your other ship or you cant swap.

Still only ores and equipment as far as we know right now. Not sure if when you salvage items into components if it will be considered like gear or ore but I hope we can store on a ship and storage on stations like ore/ship equip. I am sure Don will let us know how it will be handled when we get closer but I am sure we will have some way to handle it other than our stash....(fingers crossed)

Just a note that for crafting, when you scrap/salvage items, the component parts will be placed in an infinite crafting inventory. You may or may not be able to sell component parts (TBD). So, regardless of ship etc., component parts will transfer with you no matter which ship you are flying at the time.

This goes for scrapping ammo too. Ammo will be scrapped into component parts that can be used to creat other ammo types if you choose. Handy for when you reach the ammo cap on an ammo type you are not currently using.

Yeah, that sounds great Don! I knew it all along, I wasn't worried! "wipes sweat off brow" :)
Thanks for clarifying for us!
