Stellar Tactics

Traveler-like CRPG?
Looking through the reviews, this comment really stood out to me - The comparison to Traveler.

I'm really quite intrigued and interested after all ive read here-

I'm really close to grabbing this up but I'm not gunna lie- EA games (especially at the $20 price point) are a real gamble these days- On one hand Ive ended up with 7d2d, Empyrion and Subnautica that are 3 of my favortie games..On the other, ive been burned quite a bit as well- The thing is, this appears to be one of the EA games being done right, being developed and moving along nicely...On the other hand the whole '1 developer thing' is a bit scary as well.

So- Given my position- If I were to buy this I would be looking at this in its current state (I realize thats a bit unfair...but...)

I can handle bugs that arent gamebreaking , could care less about graphics and can even overlook balance issues- I'm a pretty hardcore rpg/tabletop gamer and the idea and the combat system will probably suit me well- But how much content? if development stopped tomorrow what could I expect as things currently stand in terms of content? If you guys bought this today as a released game (bugs and such aside- Im talking in terms of content) would most of you be happy.

Anyhow, as I said- This is a game for me- I'm not just sure if I'm better off waiting for release or just grabbing it now- My budget is a bit limited atm and im looking for something I can get into without running out of things to do within 20 hours.

Thanks.

edit- Well, Nvm- I bit the bullet and grabbed it and a couple sale games ive been wanting - Game just looks too interesting .

you can definitely get at least 20 hours of content from this game with just as it is now.

In answer to your OP title, it is as close to being "Traveller-like" as possible without incurring any copyright infringements from Mongoose Publishing.

Currently the developer is getting Ship Combat ready for testing and after that he may unlock the Galaxy Map.

I hope the missions, aside from the story one (which I also hope carries on) aren't just random spawn types. So there's more than just grinding and each faction also has a story.

discombob2k - lots of story content is planned and will be implemented. I'll be expanding the random mission system quite a bit. The first task was to get it coded and stable. The system supports expansion of mission types and story around them. Each faction does have a story and your choices will have an impact on the game.

SaintPhillip - thanks for the leap of faith. I hope you enjoy the game. The development roadmap pinned in the main forum will give you an idea of what is planned for release.

Well- I'll be honest here.... Ive played a couple hours now and my mind is blown.

How you made this by yourself is beyond me-

Loving the game mechanics immensley and I'm still in the tutorial.

I'm really happy with this so far.

The challenge later will be the radiant style questing. Or whatever ST comes up with. Endless sandbox hours of 'go there and kill, mine, farm, steal (insert descriptive here) and come back for lootz' is only going to be as compelling as the story and motivation behind it. If Traveler like to the appropriate depth, I'd hope for a dynamic and synergistic galactic economy and political over structure. With area influences and impact on trade or security, or even the kinds of jobs one can get.

SaintPhillip - thank you - It has been a lot of very hard work and commitment. ST is my obsession and will stay that way for a very long time to come. I'm proud of what I've developed so far and hope to make this a great game going forward. Thanks again for supporting the game during EA!

AbsynthMinded - yes the mission system will be expanded quite a bit. It's had a very solid start with KZ-MR7 and can be expanded quite a bit in the future. Area faction and political influences will dictate mission generation.
