Windows 10 (and 11?): Fix for dialogue cutting off
Here's what I did, which seems to be working well so far. The last step below is likely the most important part.
- Don't change anything about how the EXE runs. Don't put it in compatibility mode, don't limit the color depth, don't muck about in the NVIDIA control panel. Leave all that as it is, or restore it to the defaults if you've already messed with it.
- Grab DxWnd from SourceForge.
- In DxWnd, under "Options," turn on "Extended Mode."
- Right-click and select "Add." Explore to the path of game.exe, and point your new shortcut there.
- Right-click your newly-created shortcut, and select "Modify."
- On the main tab, I set the following: Where it reads "Window initial size and position," for size I put 1400x1050. From the radio buttons at the right I selected "desktop center."
- Under the "Video" tab, I checked off "hide taskbar," as I find it distracting while playing. Under screen resolution, I selected "Custom resolution," and set "initial resolution" to 1400x1050.
- In the "DirectX" tab, select "Automatic" for "version hook," "primary surface" for "renderer," and set the filter to "HQ 4x." Check "full bilinear filter." You can probably mess with these if you think there's a better visual setting, but this looks pretty good to me.
- This seems to be the important bit: on the "Timing" tab, check "limit" under "frames per second." Check "Hz." Enter "60" as the value in the text field directly above the "Hz" checkbox. Under "System Speed," make sure "use precise timing" is checked off.

Fire it up and give it a shot. So far so good here. I'll update this thread if I run into trouble elsewhere, and post any additional settings I wind up tweaking.

I played this on windows 11 without having to download stuff.

Did you play it with the screen stretched out of the 4:3 aspect ratio it's supposed to be played at? Or does Windows 11 just behave itself better than Windows 10 does on my potato?

To anybody landing on this thread: download and install Rivatuner Statistics Server [www.guru3d.com]. It's pretty simple to use. Set the Framerate limiter to 58 and make sure it's running when you launch Syberia 2. And that's it.

I couldn't get that to work, oddly, just fyi. It just wouldn't limit the frame rate. It also doesn't address the aspect ratio, or allow for higher resolution play. Still a good tip, though, as I know it's worked for others!

When you say "fire it up" nothing at all happened. I use Gog to play my games. I did everything you said do I fire it up from there or from the program you talked about. confused

Fair point, I should've been clearer. Once you have the game added to DxWnd as indicated, you'll want to launch the game from there, rather than from Steam or GOG. If you don't run it from DxWnd, DxWnd can't make any adjustments, so you won't see any differences at all.

I hope that helps? :)
This worked for me, thank you!!! I've wanted to play this game for ages but just couldn't get it to work until I found your post. Thanks so much for sharing❤
Finally a solution that actually works.
However, there is a pretty big downside:
I can NOT click anywhere outside of the game window without the game freezing. At least, I asssume it's frozen, because the former game-window is now black or grey.
And since the game is not in full-screen mode, clicking outside the window can happen by accident anytime. So you better save your game *constantly*.

Not a perfect solution, but the first one that actually fixed the problem in question.
