I get a black screen but sound when starting the game up
I know this issue is normally resolution related, I have it often but normally editing the launch options makes stuff work, however with this game it's not working. Anyone else having this problem? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, i3 2330M 2.2Ghz, 4GB RAM, Intel HD 3000 Graphics Samsung laptop. I can run quite recent games on here (DXHR, Borderlands 2, Sleeping Dogs, etc.) but somehow not this game?

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. AMD FX8350, Radeon 7850 2GB, 32GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro x64. Game starts up after a short delay, it goes fullscreen black, then switches back to Windows with a black box in the upper left hand corner which looks to be about 800x600 in size on my 30" display which is native 2560x1600.

Looks like the game doesn't like it if you have a monitor with a resolution higher than 1920x1200. I followed the advice of lowering my Windows resolution from a GOG forum post for the same game, and now the game starts up properly in 800x600, so it is in fact a bug in the game. I don't know if there is any way to force Steam to start the game in 800x600 automatically or not, or whether it can use higher resolutions, but it now works in 800x600, but only if Windows is set to 1920x1200 or lower. Hope this helps someone else out there experiencing the same problem.

In case anyone else has this issue and ends up here like I did.
I solved this problem of the black screen by right clicking on the game, going into Properties >> Compatibility and Checking the box that says run at 600 x 800 Resolution. Problem solved.

This post has a good tip that worked for me on Win 7 Pro 64-bit. My game was incredibly glitchy in 1920x1080 fullscreen, but the tweak fixed everything. You basically create a new config file that forces the game to run in an 800x600 window. It's small, but you don't really need the game to be fullscreen when there's already too much empty space and needless running around.

go into your syberia folder and create a new text file.

Add the following to the text file:

1024 768 16 0 BaseCMO.cmo

rename the file to player.ini

That should fix your problem.
