(FIX) The 3D Rendering Engine Could Not Be Initialized

Just purchased the bundle and Syberia 1 would just give me this error.

Adjusting the Game.exe Compatibility settings to Win98se / 256 colors / administrator, did nothing for me other than make it take longer to error!

I reset those options back to default and changed the resolution of my monitor to 800 x 600 and the game works so I kept bumping the Resolution up until the game would not start which was 1920 x 1440 anything higher the game would not start!

Fix: Lower your resolution for the game to anything 1920 x 1440 and lower'

Monitor: Dell u2713m 2560 x 1440
OS: Windows 7 Home Prem 64Bit
CPU: I7 920 @ 2.66Ghz
Ram: 6GB @ 1600Mhz
GPU: 2 x 670FTW SIG2
SSD: 256GB 840 Pro

Change the resolution of your desktop, presumably.

Thanks, actually I just changed only one thing "8bit 256 colors", and it worked

NVIDIA CARD FIX
To be able to play this game you need to set your onboard graphichip (example Intel HD4000) to activate when starting the game. To do this go to your Nvidia Controll Panel - Manage 3d settings -there you add the game Syberia and choose your onboard graphic to always run the game. Presto

I still can't get it to work. Changing it to 8bit 256color made it so that the game initialized, instead of an error immediately. I put the resolution down to 1024, then 640, and neither worked.
I have two monitors - tried turning off one, and running it on the one screen, but it did not change the error I received.

It says I lack a 3d Accelerator

Might be a bit late, but it runs well with DXWnd app, which allows to emulate older DirectX renderers.

Worked with following settings for me (4K Display, Nvidia graphics)

Main tab:
Run in window: on

Video tab:
Limit resolution: 800x600

DirectX tab:
DirectX Version Hook: DirectX 7
Rendered: gdi
Filter: PIX 2x
Full bilinear filter: on (helped to fix glitches, probably caused by DPI resizing)

None of the above solutions worked for me...

Just to confirm, that for me the solution with DXWnd (as suggested by rkgrep) worked. The app is portable, does not write into registry (which I consider an advantage).
Only caveat - you need to launch the game.exe file in the syberia directory, and not the syberia.exe

DxWnd was the only way for me to make this work. Resolution 800x600 works fine (it was scaled up automatically on my 4k monitor). I also tried a higher resolution but the game bugged out during play.

Try change properties -> compatibility -> setting = tick Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution, work on mine case.
