Just set your windows resolution to 1920x1080 then make sure syberia is downloaded on the same place your steam app is downloaded
When I'm buying a game on Steam, the least I expect if someone is willing to take my money is that it's compatible, easily, with modern technology. If it isn't, don't sell it

Might be a bit late, but it runs well with DXWnd app, which allows to emulate older DirectX renderers.

Worked with following settings for me (4K Display, Nvidia graphics)

Main tab:
Run in window: on

Video tab:
Limit resolution: 800x600

DirectX tab:
DirectX Version Hook: DirectX 7
Rendered: gdi
Filter: PIX 2x
Full bilinear filter: on (helped to fix glitches, probably caused by DPI resizing)

https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/

P.S. Tuning Window Initial Position and Size parameters helped to play like Fullscreen

So, I downloaded the .rar file, extracted and launched the dxwnd.exe file.
I'm not sure what to do now, please can you help a fellow gamer who would love to play this classic?
When my 1440p 144 Hz monitor was the only one on I'd get the 3D rendering engine error, but with a 60 Hz 1080p monitor on as well I'd get a black box in the corner with audio. Running in admin with XP SP2 compatibility with just the 1080p monitor on (or setting the 1440p monitor to 1080p and 60 Hz) fixed it for me. Not ideal, but for anyone who hasn't had luck with the other methods the game appears to be sensitive to monitor conditions.

@alberto_magno if you're still subscribed to this thread they're being given away at GOG (https://www.gog.com/game/syberia_i_ii) and supposedly work better without any tinkering

Yup. I got frustrated with not being able to play this game on steam.

Fortunately I was able to claim Syberia awhile ago on GOG and as long as you keep the display resolution to 1080p it works right away there without a need to tinker with my steam files.

Just edit the Game.exe. Run as admin, Compatibility Mode XP SP2, change to 8bit color, resolution 640x480, DPI scale and manually download and install the DX9.0c Full Package, not the Webinstaller. Works on Windows 8.1 x64 and AMD R9 270X.
It works,thank you.

The only change I needed to make to Game.exe was that the game was set to use 640x480 resolution. Running Win10 Pro 64-bit ver. 20H2 as of 10/12/2021.

Then go buy a console. The game came out when Pentium II processors and Voodoo graphics cards were the norm. The fact it runs at all with some minor tweaks means it has been patched for modern hardware. Get Over It.

This worked for me and running on windows 11 and for a bit more help for those that are unsure.

exe can be found C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Syberia

right click Game Icon and choose properties then do as above.
The primary fix is to just change/force your Windows screen resolution to 1920x1080. You don't need to make any changes to the file to get it to work. I spent a few hours trying to figure this out, and that is the best/easiest fix.

PLUS, you don't need to play at that super low resolution.
You dont understand my writing. There is no need to change your Windows screen resolution. The game is running on 640x480 and thats what you force with editing the game.exe.
