I had the same problem. I fixed it by setting the Output API from dgVoodoo to Direct3D 11 MS WARP (software).
I also use an older version of dgVoodoo ( 2.63.2), so maybe you need the setting and the older version.
I have tried all available options including setting Windows resolution to custom one and even though "capture mouse" option is on in the vodoo settings the mouse still goes out of the window in every resolution I have tried.
When I try to run the game with forced res. 1440 from vodoo panel with 1920x1080 Windows res. the game is streched...
Stretched or not, game pointer (circle) goes out of borders and white standart windows pointer shows around the screen.
Can someone help?
Hey. I made a video where i show how to use the tools mentioned in this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49SFJNZbnN8&lc=Ugw0askcDfwA3Ux4lNF4AaABAg.9KxoMjOHevW9KzCpy7qCEn
For a fast answer: set it to your native resolution.
But you may have to change something in your graphics driver settings.
Whenever something is sent in full screen to your graphics driver, the driver decides how to adapt it to your physical screen.
In NVidias case you find this in the nvidia system control panel called "adapt desktop size and position" (or something similar, had to translate it from my system language).
Three of the options keep aspect ratio, the only exception is "fullscreen" (2nd option in my case), that's a bad choice.
It would be nice if Syberia2's resolution in a window could be changed, but if the game is started in window mode, the size of that window is fixed, dgvoodoo has no influence on that.

Download and extract the .dlls from the MS/x86/ folder
along with dgVoodoo.exe into your Syberia game main directory.
Using this method seems to eliminate the "3D Engine could not be initialized" error without applying any compatibility or reduced color options.
You might have to Alt-tab out and back in again when you start the game
Follow the rest of the instructions from the OP like setting a custom resolution (1440x1080) in your GPU's CP. With Nvidia it's Control Panel | Display | Change res | Customize...
However I note below that other res work fine, like 1920x1440 without creating a custom res. Not stretched.
Importante Look at OP's two screenshots of settings for dgVoodoo, I went with those.
All this helps the game play nice and compact on an ultrawide monitor. Not every game needs to be Horizon Zero Dawn :-)
Game still holds up, a classic point and click adventure, with nice graphics.
Edit: can confirm this works with Syberia 2 as well. Better quality (slightly newer) game with less frustration.
Thank you :)
No problem, I decided to increase my view and fill up the screen some more so I tried a couple higher resolutions.
1920x1440 entered into dgVoodoo under DirectX Tab | Resolution
looks nice as well. It's already there (for me) no custom resolution needed.
Happy to hear that :D
Did you check the voodoo app settings, I think I set it on the last tab on my resolution.
Fixed the link, sorry about that. I'm glad it worked well for you.
