Syberia I & II - High Resolution Guide
Hi, I've seen that if you search a little you can play Syberia I & II in high resolution but this topic is no clear to figure out, so I've decided to make this 6 steps . . . guide? I'll use 1080p resolution in windows 10 but you can use whatever you want. No need to tick any compatibility option in the exe propierties compatibility tab. No more "No 3d accelerator" error too.

First of all, you should create a custom 1080p 4:3 aspect ratio resolution in your gpu control panel. In this case will be 1440x1080. And select the keep aspect ratio scaling or whatever.

Then, you must download dgvoodoo2 and extract the exe file and the 3 dlls in the "MS" folder into the game directory. In Syberia I isn't necesary the D3D8.dll file, in Syberia II is a must.

Link to dgvoodoo [dege.freeweb.hu]

What to extract
Files to extract 1 [image.ibb.co]
Files to extract 2 [image.ibb.co]

At this point you can already set the configuration. I'll leave a capture of that. If you are having low framerates, set a lower atialiasing sample.
dgvoodoo setup [image.ibb.co]

Where to copy the files
Syberia I location [image.ibb.co]
Syberia II location (I have it on Origin, but it works anyway) [image.ibb.co]

Profit on glorious high resolution
Glorious Syberia I [image.ibb.co]
Glorious Syberia II [image.ibb.co]

I commented about this, couldn't find a proper solution. If you card supports dx12, download the latest version of dgvoodoo 2.72 and set it up using dx12 as backend renderer in main tab "Output API" option. There is a problem with cinematics tough (in my pc at least)

Wined3d and dgvoodoo can't be used at the same time, there can be only one.

I did try this but it did not change anything: the opening scenes were fine, but then the main menu and game looked like in the screenshot. It's a curious problem but I don't know where to look to debug it beyond the Syberia startup logs.

Yes, you cannot use both Wine3D and dgVoodoo at once. When switching between them I have to remove the .dll files associated with one before I can run it with another.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by setting the Output API from dgVoodoo to Direct3D 11 MS WARP (software).

I also use an older version of dgVoodoo ( 2.63.2), so maybe you need the setting and the older version.
This is a very old thread but I have just started to play Syberia. I have saved a custom resolution in Nvdia panel (1440x1080) . The thing I couldn't understand is that if I need to set my Windows resolution to this new custom setting or keep my normal Windows (1920x1080) setting?

I have tried all available options including setting Windows resolution to custom one and even though "capture mouse" option is on in the vodoo settings the mouse still goes out of the window in every resolution I have tried.

When I try to run the game with forced res. 1440 from vodoo panel with 1920x1080 Windows res. the game is streched...

Stretched or not, game pointer (circle) goes out of borders and white standart windows pointer shows around the screen.

Can someone help?

Hey. I made a video where i show how to use the tools mentioned in this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49SFJNZbnN8&lc=Ugw0askcDfwA3Ux4lNF4AaABAg.9KxoMjOHevW9KzCpy7qCEn

For a fast answer: set it to your native resolution.

A more complete answer you find in the video above. I just wanted to mention that you never ever have to change your desktop resolution, these days - if programmed correctly - every full screen game gets it's own virtual screen. And dgVoodoo does just that.

But you may have to change something in your graphics driver settings.
Whenever something is sent in full screen to your graphics driver, the driver decides how to adapt it to your physical screen.
In NVidias case you find this in the nvidia system control panel called "adapt desktop size and position" (or something similar, had to translate it from my system language).
Three of the options keep aspect ratio, the only exception is "fullscreen" (2nd option in my case), that's a bad choice.

It would be nice if Syberia2's resolution in a window could be changed, but if the game is started in window mode, the size of that window is fixed, dgvoodoo has no influence on that.

I got Syberia 1 to run on WIndows 10 Windowed 1080p okay. I downloaded dgVoodoo v2.75.1 dumped all the MS files in the game older, messed around in the dgVoodoo config thing to make it windowed stretched but keep aspect ratio. By the way I have the GOG version not Steam ver.
Just an update - as many newcomers may be trying the game again because it's currently free to keep (well not anymore because this is in the past) but anyhow the working link for dgVoodoo is:

http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/

Download and extract the .dlls from the MS/x86/ folder
along with dgVoodoo.exe into your Syberia game main directory.

Using this method seems to eliminate the "3D Engine could not be initialized" error without applying any compatibility or reduced color options.

You might have to Alt-tab out and back in again when you start the game

Follow the rest of the instructions from the OP like setting a custom resolution (1440x1080) in your GPU's CP. With Nvidia it's Control Panel | Display | Change res | Customize...

However I note below that other res work fine, like 1920x1440 without creating a custom res. Not stretched.

Importante Look at OP's two screenshots of settings for dgVoodoo, I went with those.

All this helps the game play nice and compact on an ultrawide monitor. Not every game needs to be Horizon Zero Dawn :-)

Game still holds up, a classic point and click adventure, with nice graphics.

Edit: can confirm this works with Syberia 2 as well. Better quality (slightly newer) game with less frustration.

At least that's what I chose, given it's an older game.

Thank you :)

No problem, I decided to increase my view and fill up the screen some more so I tried a couple higher resolutions.

1920x1440 entered into dgVoodoo under DirectX Tab | Resolution
looks nice as well. It's already there (for me) no custom resolution needed.
HI, I cannot get this game to run full screen. I have followed the instructions in the original post but nothing seems to work. I checked the properties of the game.exe and there's no compatibility settings switched on. I even deleted the file and reacquired it, but the game will only run in a win. My PC is connected to my 4K tv, but assume that shouldn't make any difference? Even if I change the resolution in Windows to 1080p it will still only run in a window. Any ideas?

Happy to hear that :D
This is the best post ever. Now on a 2k monitor the game still looks wonderful. Way better than playing at 640x480 by the way the link of the Voodoo thing doesn't work I downloaded it here works like a charm!! http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/

Did you check the voodoo app settings, I think I set it on the last tab on my resolution.

Fixed the link, sorry about that. I'm glad it worked well for you.
Funnily this works on Syberia I but not Syberia II whever I try to ALT+TAB into full screen it just goes completely black and flickers whenever I try to click on it, and it's also a black window in the corner of the screen
