Syberia Menu Missing Textures
So I have an issue with this game I can't find discussed anywhere else. I have the game launching fine and it runs, but when I get to the main menu the options to click aren't there and my cursor is missing. And when I alt tab out and go back in most of the textures disappear from the menu. Guy's just sitting there riding his bicycle not gettin anywhere, freakin poetic.

I tried the player.ini file fix which didn't work and made it crash. I'm currently running in XP SP3 compatibility with 256 colors, 640x480 and run as admin all checked which does allow the game to run without the 3d rendering error. I aloso tried uninstalling and reinstalling and checked for file integrity and steam verified it okay.

I have some screenshots if anyone wants to see them but I don't know ho to post them on here.

Anybody that might know what's up?

:EDIT: I also tried disabling my overclocks but that didn't help.

My PC Specs:
Athlon 860k OC @4.5 G/hz
EVGA 750 ti SC
Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit

I'm running the game on Windows 10. All I had to do in order to get past that video error when it starts is in the compatibility section, open the settings for all users and check the reduced color mode setting which has it running in 8-bit. The game ran flawless all the way through. I can't say exactly what your issue might be but perhaps doing all that other stuff you are doing is causing some bugs.

As for the alt+tab, don't do that. It even says in the game's original readme to not do it. If you switch out of the application then the pre-rendered images won't load when you switch back to the game. If you switch screens, such as transition to a new camera angle, then everything will load again. But try not to do that if possible.

Thanks Fenixx. Maybe I should just get Windows 10 and see if that fixes it, lol. I tried it with and without running 8-bit color and I definitely needs that setting on for it to work. I dont have the error and the game starts fine. But the start screen doesn't show anything to click, there's no words.

It definitely needs to run in 8-bit color mode. The XP compatibility though I would try turning off. It also doesn't need to run in 640x480. The games default resolution is 800x600. I can't say for anyone else but mine runs full screen in that resolution without having to modify anything. It stretches it out to fill my widescreen monitor but I just change a scaling option on my monitor to maintain the proper aspect ratio.

Another issue you may encounter is the anti-aliasing doesn't seem to work, or at least does a really bad job of it. So you will want to force the AA through your Nvidia control panel.

Another thing you might want to check is your Nvidia settings in general. I know a lot of people mess around with them but I try not to touch any graphics settings in the main system controls because it can cause a lot of issues with games. When I was forcing the AA for this game, I also decided to turn up a bunch of other settings for textures and stuff. Because this game uses basically images for most of it, changing the texture settings kinda messed with some of it. So if you've made any changes to your Nvidia control panel stuff, you might want to reset them for this game and see if that fixes anything.

When you first fired up the game, it should have prompted you with something about installing DirectPlay, at least it does for Windows 10. If it showed you that window, did you make sure to install that?

I'm not sure what else could possibly be causing just the buttons to be missing. I assume it has just black boxes where the buttons should be then. When you mouse over them, does it make a sound or can you even click on them?

I don't recall anything about DirectPlay. You're right about the black boxes. Sometimes it makes a sound, but i actually cant see my mouse cursor either.

I can't say how DirectX and DirectPlay function with Windows 7 but I would suggest maybe looking into that. DirectPlay is required for this game to work properly. I know it was always included in older versions of operating systems and that's perhaps why Windows 10 needs the additional download, but maybe it's missing for Windows 7 as well.

I am having the same issue, windows 11. The game will run but the menu is missing texture, when get inside the game background texture are mostly white. Texts appears as black stripes. Maybe I should try virtual box and windows xp combo.

Have you managed to fix it? Win 10, ticked all the compatibility boxes - nothing helps

This helped: https://steamcommunity.com/app/46500/discussions/0/1736593325993072625/?ctp=8#c4343240135699337979

Just download this file, copy to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Syberia and replace the old one.
