Saved a game, crashed, lost the file
As the title suggests, I'm playing a map and I go to save. The game crashes and dumps me to Steam. All of Surviving Mars closes. When I reload, I find my entire saved game file is missing. I searched for it in my computer and the entire file is missing.

This has happened twice.

Any ideas?

There are logs to check for specific errors if any, they are located into :
C:\Users\<userID>\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\logs

Any chance to have an autosave still around? I got the habit to keep three manual saves that I rotate between them, just in case. Oh, one more thing, are you using Steam Cloud?

I just started to save a backup of the same game, just in case this happened. Thank God I did because lo and behold, it just happened again. I have a "backup" of the recent colony I created, a few saves back, but I don't have to start fresh.

The Main saved game file is long gone. It's like the game figured it was corrupt so deleted it.


I found the log file. I can't figure out which mod is killing the game for me.

I turned off Steam Cloud. I'm checking the log files. I already removed two mods that I thought were causing it (according to the log files). Still it's crashing (thank God for the backup file I created).

Updated my drivers. Still crashed. Tried offline. Still crashed. Deleted a few suspected mods. Still crashed.

Thank God I saved that backup.

When I create a new map, it runs fine. After a short time, it begins to crash at random saves. Now I've gotten to a spot that the moment I load, I won't do anything until I save (for a new file name), and it crashes.

I never crashed before I upgraded to all the DLC and a few mods. My mods are primarily Chog's and Ski's.

I'm a vanilla player so I cannot help with finding a "bad" mod, but you can copy-paste your whole log to pastebin.com and leave here its URL only next time : )

Do you really have about 90 mods active? ^^'

PS: to turn off Steam Cloud for this game is only good, saves are too much for it.

And I only use 62 mods...

Reading through the coding, I keep thinking it's an audio file which means I'm wondering if it's one of the radio channel mods, but even on a basic SM radio channel it's been crashing.

I'm so beat with this thing. I'm creating a new colony to start over yet again. -_-

Have you tried to verify game's files already? From your Steam Library, right click on Surviving Mars, select Options, select Local Files and there click on the verify button.

Just basic troubleshooting ^^'

Yup, been doing that from the beginning. I've known about verifying integrity of game files all along. Have to do that for Cities Skylines. That's one of the first things I've done, along with rebooting and uninstalling/reinstalling.

I've even tried scanning through the codex files of the other output logs buried in the video and sound cards, but to no avail. Drivers are all updated. Still can't figure this thing out.

What about to start a new game while flagging "no B&B"? If troubles started with it maybe it is worth a try, before to test all combinations of mods that may not work with it or with each other : /

Even a new game with no mods may be worth a try, just to be sure that it doesn't crashes while B&B is running. It is time consuming anyway -.-

Which one are you tested now, "no B&B" scenario or pure vanilla one?

Everything's working great. I've almost gotten 100% on teraforming and have every DLC loaded. I kept all my mods activated and added a few more. Only mod I removed was the colorization mods (surface colors, element colors, or whatever they were called). Forgot the names, but it was two mods by the same creator. The crash log file kept repeating the same thing, even after I removed the mods and reloaded the saved file, so I went ahead and started over.

I'm playing at 60fps and the only time it somewhat begins to stutter is because it's loading too much at once. I play quick so sometimes the computer can't keep up with me, despite having the components that it *should*.
