The game was finished, it was not abandoned. You have no clue what you are talking about.

It could in a way be considered abandoned, they added dlc that did nothing but add a bunch of bugs, and then fired the creators of the dlc, before they could fix the bugs, and now the modders have been left to fix the bugs for us.

The best way to put it was Paradox originally pulled the plug after Green Planet, cutting ties with Haeminont, but Haeminont left it in a finished, relatively polished state.

Paradox then decided two years later to milk to cow for more money, hiring bottom of the barrel devs Abstraction to do it. They broke almost every facet of the game to produce the relatively bad Below & Beyond DLC, introduced a ton of bugs, and spent the next year fixing the worst of them before Paradox fired them. Paradox then abandoned the game in a half-fixed state.

As of now (time of this comment), most of the bugfixes, QOLs, & contents are from modders. Go check out the Steam workshop, especially the legendary Choggi for the extensive bugfixes, though unofficial but seems essential

Thanks for the tip. Could you kindly list those mods you are talking about? I have subscribed to many of Choggis mods (the creator is a legend!) but not seen those you are mentioning.

Current state is a hot mess after B&B was released out of nowhere. No news, updates, or official fixes for the bug ridden DLC called B&B. I'd call that dead and abandoned.

games isn't a hot mess if you don't buy the BB dlc.

The problem is alot of us bought it when it first came out, so now it is a mess.

It can become a hot mess even without DLC : )
But I see your point, trying to use B&B may not end well ^^'

They did break/change a lot of stuff that got pushed through as a "free content update" though. Whoever said Haemimont left it in a finished and polished state was correct. The game was great before Abstraction came along.

Even if it felt like more could have been done with the game, I would have rather not gotten any more content over this. I haven't and will not buy the B&B and trains DLCs, but Abstraction's changes still affected the game regardless.

Tbf they fixed all the bugs that broke the base game before they were fired, domes of the ones related to B&B still persist though.

Sorry to break your bubble, but they basically abandoned it when they decided to release a lousy "dlc" that wasnt even a dlc at all and they didnt even bother to fix anything at all. We had to depend on modders to do the job. In my universe that is a clear example of abandoning a videogame. Also many broken things were left unfixed as well.

I get that gamers these days see as usual and normal have broken and bugged games, but in this case it was a clear case of abandon.

To be fair, most of the time I see people talking about abandoned games, they are talking about games that are legitimately just finished and in a good state. A lot of players cry "abandonned game!" just because the devs have stopped putting out new content. So I kinda get the knee-jerk reaction to want to point out the difference.

In this case however, I have to agree with you... I mean, it was finished before Abstraction came along. A lot of people were asking for new content, and I was on board with that too at the time. But instead of getting the people who made the game to make more content, they hired people who made lack-lustre content that didn't fit in well with the existing game and wrecked a bunch of stuff along the way. Then pulled the plug when it wasn't well received, without fixing anything.

From my perspective, it went from a finished game to an abandoned game... which is kinda fitting for a company called Paradox, come to think of it.

So there is no hope of the devs making Surviving Mars 2?
