Steamdeck support?
Hi,

wondering when support for the Steamdeck will added. Or did anybody tried the game already on the deck? I would love to play surviving Mars on my deck.

Dont plan on it being added, the game has been abandoned.

I don't have a Steam Deck myself, but I think Valve has mentioned that all Steam games should technically work on it? Especially if they already support controllers. No need for devs to do anything.

Not sure, though. Give it a try :lunar2019smilingpig:

AFAIK if you install Proton then most Steam games will work on the Deck

I think actually Proton was developed by Valve for their 'Deck, since it uses Linux, so should already be installed and updated .

But again, I don't have either the Deck nor a Linux machine!

Might be better with confirmation by someone who actually knows this, so I'll go back into my corner...

I did a quick search, and it's listed as 'Gold' for compatibility there (search the game), with the comment 'works perfectly with some tweaks'.

I'm a bit interested since I'd like to get the Steam Deck myself, but it's not available in Norway yet... :steamsad:

Good that it works! :104: It used to be called 'released' back when I grew up, not abandoned... :lunar2019grinningpig: They can't keep working for free, and people also need to change projects to keep passionate about their work. In my previous job, if a project took longer than 5 years, most of the staff was replaced by 'fresh' minds, even the project leaders.

Their current project, 'Stranded - Alien Dawn' is pretty good! Was how I discovered this game, ironically enough. I see similarities in the interface and such.

Original developers were "left behind" after Green Planet, then a different developer studio took over for later DLC but they too were "left behind", and in the end even modders were hired and "left behind". Result, many bugs are still around and no one is left to fix them.

It is still enjoyable anyway, even for few thousands hours, but one must know how to avoid to end in bigger troubles during a play through. Back when I grew up, games were released in an almost perfect and complete state, nowadays it is not that way anymore -.-

I really cannot get used to this "digital delivery" era : /

Bjørn the only reason I used the term abandoned, was because of the way it was left, with alot of bugs in it and no fixes to those bugs. When games were released in the old days they usually were pretty bug free, there would occationally be some, but not as bad as this game was left in. At one point there were a few modders who fixed the bugs, I dont know if those mods still work or not, at one point they didnt, and that was when I gave up playing. I do agree Stranded: Alien Dawn is a pretty good game.

This is entirely Paradox' fault.

Have you played TES II: Daggerfall? Right when it came out? Compared to that, even B&B is still "cute".

Me, too:steamsad:

I prefer not to judge on woes fault or not fault falls, it is always a grey area and it doesn't change what results are left in our hands ^^'

At the time of TESII I was still on console, I moved to (or I should say that I wanted to taste it a bit) PC gaming much later, around 2014 probably, and I guess I had been lucky with the few titles I got looking at what happens around : (

Paradox' greed is well known, there's nothing grey about that.

So you've never experienced the joy of gaming on Ms-Dos? Or the spirit of the first-generation 3d games? A shame, really.
kaki_gamet Aug 20, 2023 @ 6:01pm
First generation 3D games surely not, for me it was FF7 or Tomb Raider most likely (on PSX). MS-DOS I used it at school from time to time, maybe it had Stepmine (much later it have been changed to a more Disney-ish name) : D

I see your bias, since on consoles, games were released as stable, full games. Well, mostly because there was no way to update them. On PC though, it wasn't as stellar, although the development certainly went into the wrong direction. For example, Paradox' policy of releasing a skeleton of a game, then selling the rest through DLCs.

This isn't the type of game you'd want to play on an a tablet form factor regardless. Let the Steam Deck die in peace.
