All I get is an error report.

Are they ever gonna fix this, or does the developer just don^t care ?

For sure the developers of this game don't care.

However, this is actually an Apple problem. The Rosetta translation of the game works under macOS 12 (Monterey) but it does not work under macOS 13 (Ventura).

Yes, it is an Apple problem, and we've been awaiting the necessary input from them to fix it.

To clarify, this is not an issue with the latest macOS update per se, but rather with M1 and M2 Macs, which are not supported hardware.

Per this post[forum.paradoxplaza.com] from December last year:

"We've been in contact with Apple and they've been able to replicate the issue and know what's causing it. It's unfortunately an integral part of the game code though and we can't fix this on our own, we need their help. What this means in reality is that they'll help us solve it at some point though we don't know when that may be."

Apologies it's not been fixed, but we are aware of it and we are doing everything we can on our end outside of Apple's intervention. There are some simple workarounds that have been published in that thread and in other areas of the forum if you are so inclined, but do so at your own risk as they're not from any official source! Sorry I can't be of more help.

I'm having the same issue.

I'm on an M1 MacBook Pro and get the same. I bought this game in november and keep forgetting about it. Each time I've tried to play, it won't open. I'm guessing it doesn't work on M1/2 Macs. Hopefully they give out refunds...

I am playing it on a M1 MacBook Pro and it runs fine for me. I am running on macOS Monterey (12.6.2) and the reports of people that are having problems seem to be on macOS Ventura. Maybe that's where the difference is?

I think the problem is this one. I played very well since yesterday, when my macOS decided to update and now that I have macOS Ventura 13.1 it doesn't work! I hope they will fix it.

I am having the same issue. Don't update to Ventura if you still want to play Surviving Mars for now.

Unfortunately, SM was never really well supported for Mac, and after Abstraction came in and pushed B&B updates into the source code support for Mac is almost completely broken now. There is no more active development of the game, so this is unlikely to ever change.

By the way, I'm running mac0S Ventura 13.1

I've seen this crop up before on Macbook OS Upgrades.
I dont have a Mac but I've been here since the beginning some 3000 years ago and seen enough to suggest the following.
Report back if this works.
Switch the Apple version of the GPU drivers for the OEM version. For instance, real AMD Radeon if you have that. You may be able to try multiple versions of the OEM drivers until you find one that works.
In the past its typically been related to either this, or one of the kernel libraries like SSL that needed a tweak.

You may be able to find some old posts, with my name somewhere in them.

Thanks for trying, but I'm using the M2 MacBook Air so all the drivers can only be Apple.

Steam needs to tell us if a game is compatible with Apple Silicon. I don't think I will buy any more Steam games until this is done.

I downgraded my MacBook Pro M1 from Ventura to BigSur and it should work again.

Steam DOES tell you though!

In Surviving Mars under minimum requirements it says under macOS:

4th Generation Intel i3 CPU or equivalent

So it is pretty clear that this game does not support M1 / M2 natively and uses Rosetta 2 translation layer on that hardware.
