This seems way better than planetbase.
Yeah as it says in the title, I haven't played yet but unlike in that game the AI seems to have some basic sense of urgency.

planetbase is much simpler and much smaller in scale.

Well that's not difficult. Planetbase was terrible.

I think the biggest problem was overspecialization. Compare to a different sci fi game that takes place in a survival situation: Rimworld. In Rimworld, everyone is capable of doing anything unless they have a specific caveat preventing so in their backstory (someone who used to be a noble can't do things like hauling for example), they just have various degrees of skill in doing so. Compare to planetbase where ONLY engineers can build and repair things, ONLY biologists could work on the hydroponics, ONLY workers can make ore into metal and starch into bioplastics, etc. This makes it where if, say, your engineers all happen to be in the same building when it's hit by a meteorite, you are screwed. There's also an even bigger problem of assignment. In Rimworld you can specifically assign a dude to do a task immediately, but in Planetbase all you can do is assign priority and even then most of the time the colonists ignore it. So your base could be in desperate need of Spares to fix a windmill so the oxygen generator don't shut down, but even if you assign priority to the spare making machines, the workers won't actually start making spares even if you have enough metal to fund an entire army for a year

I promise I'm not a rimworld shill, it's just a much better constructed game then Planetbase. Then again, friggin Anthem is a better constructed game then planetbase, at least it only hamstrings itself some of the time. :P

RimWorld is infinitely better than Planetbase definitely. Planetbase was far too restrictive and the AI were dumb as bricks. Even the dumb AI in RimWorld can be made up for being able to manually give them priority tasks.

it's only shilling when the game being promoted is terrible, meaning in this case you aren't shilling

Eh, I kinda liked Planetbase. Perhaps because it was so simple, it passed time. How does this match up in terms of gameplay?

Cliff Empires is very similar to Surviving Mars. Cliff Empires is awesome.
to be fair...even rimworld looks like simple "worse" game if you compare it to dwarf fortress , just becouse game is simpler does not mean its worse

but on other hand on end of the day its people who play games and reguardless of some people tell you best way to tell if people liked the game is rewiews

if you go this route planet base seams not bad with 76% rewiews (this game has 71%)

my nitpick on this game is lots interface is counter intuative and lots things dont make that much sense

Example can be filter when picking new colonists from earth(whos pain , time consuming and not inuative at all , and handpicking is annoying , i played with filter but never managed to make it work as good as id like)

instead of "banning traits" would be better if 1 click of button would make "i want to see these 3 geniuses" rather then "i need to ban everything and hope lists get small enough for me to find them"

Game is good but needs some UI/interface rework (can bringup examples like factorio where they completly made new UI and game got 10 times better)

Factorio is awesome. I would play it more, only I get eye strain headaches from all of the teeny tiny moving pixels.
