early gaming need resouce
What can I build instead of the casino that will fulfill the Gaming social requirement. the casino takes way too much power and looks like it is a midgame service. parks don't seem to help and the other one, electronics store uses the most restrictive resource in the game. Any tips on this?

They say on their tooltip when you go to build them what services they offer.

Don't build the casino or spacebar in the early game. You don't have the population to support running them, and they aren't needed then. In fact you shouldn't even think of them until you can build at least a medium dome (not with sponser that gives you that tech early). The casino costs 20 electronics to build and 2 to maintain, so if you don't have the electronics production to support that plus your other maintenance requirements, you are trying to build it too soon.

Instead, when you fill your passenger ship with new colonists, use the filter to block the gaming perk

You don't need to provide for every single preference. All the colonists have several preferences and as long as some are being provided they're fine.

When a colonist wants to visit a service building (I think every sol?) they randomly look for one of their preferences. If it's not available they take a comfort hit, if it is they get a comfort boost. So if a colonist's likes are +Dining +Social +Gaming, having a diner takes care of the first two and the lack of gaming isn't an issue. They'll be happier if they have a casino, but they'll still be content without one.

The only thing I ever build until late game is diner, grocer, and some parks. They're cheap to build and provide Food, Dining, Social, Shopping, Relaxation, Exercise, and Playing. Every colonist likes at least two of those services, so it's not necessary to build the specialized buildings until later in the game.

Gaming restores sanity and provides comfort.

A video game shop saves space. A casino saves electronics because the maintainance is limited, while the consumption of a vidoe game shop is determiend by amount of visitors.

If you provide gaming for your scientists then you can run a 3rd shift without having to worry about the sanity loss.

Thanks for the tips. I filter Gambler from my prospects anyway but gaming is difficult to manage. I have tried the VG shop and had success but when money starts to get tight it becomes a sink hole. going to try it before the linked dome update starts. thanks again

Gaming is a high consumption at the start because each time a gamer visit the shop you lose 1 electronics.

At the start of the game you lack other ways and improved ways to restore sanity. So the visits are a bit more frequent. They become less frequent late game, but then you are dealign with masses of people.

To give you an idea, I have a colony at 3100 population. My electronics maintaiance is 50 electronics. My electronics consumption is 150 electronics.
