Is this game too easy?
Apart from the first 20-50 sols (depending on how hard you set it up) this game is super easy, there is pretty much no middle or late game as you have already done what you need to to survive.

Or have I just got lucky?

It’s only as easy as you want it to be. Play in an area with terrible weather and/or rough terrain. Use a more difficult sponsor. Go to the workshop and enable the “realistic mars” mod. Lots of different ways to increase difficulty and challenge.

I play on max difficulty, I want it to be hard and fun and challenging, not trying to sabotage myself thats too easy.

Not sure suicide is considered as a challenge.

I like the mod idea I will have a look.

I am wary of mods as there are so many updates comming it will probably make them unplayable when i update.

It is too easy. Far too easy. Once you've got at least 1 of each factory up and running, you've won.

In a word: YES!

Well my 100 colonists that just died because I got hit by a meteor followed by a dust storm followed by a cold permafrost.. After getting 50% into the game. I was repeatedly hit by storms which just drained my ability to protect the colony.

So no, I'd say it isn't remotely easy.. Unless you're playing in easy mode.. or modded.

Problem with mods is they're usually buggier than the base game they are supposed to fix. Or they present you with balances that actually make the game much easier whilst claiming to make it harder.. If you get hit by a meteor storm that takes out all of your power, followed by dust and cold storms that basically making repairing impossible added into the insane amount and fiddleness of the micro management..

I think you're all talking out the wrong hole if you think the game is too easy.. what does having all the factories do that helps you? Not alot when you're starving because they're earthsick.. or maybe you switch that off.. then maybe it is too easy..

The game difficulty really depends alot on setup and where you settle. It has zero to do with the amount of factories people have.

I played a 475% game in which I yawned all the way thru. Several key moments I absolutely needed to pull off but, as already said, after you're set up you've already won. Disasters or no disasters.

You’ve got to do your homework to ensure you’re finding mods that provide the changes you’re looking for. The main mod I use, Realistic Mars, is definitely the way to go in my opinion. Well balanced, bug free and integrated with mod config so you can enable and disable specific elements to create your desired challenge and/or integrate it with other mods like Crop Rotation.

Well you're 1 person. There's on avg 1700 games in play. I wonder how many of those are yawning.

@ Static I'll check out the mods.

The greatest and unique ideas always come from a singular person, by definition. Anyway I agree that colonists needs should be more difficult to meet. Disasters are fine and a new option is coming that is going to increase the intensity of all of them. No map has 4/4/4/4 disasters and 1/1/1/1 resources.

Right now the only real source of difficulty comes from the random disasters and mysteries. And both can be easily countered with just a little planning or by simply maintaining high levels of life support and materials. Or in other words, not building too quickly and spending yourself blind.

But even this level of challenge can be minimized by some of the breakthroughs. There are several that can take a reasonably challenging game and make it trival.

Id personally like to see more disasters, with more profound and lingering effects. Perhaps dust storms could damage rockets, forcing expensive repairs. Or internal problems like riots, protests, and rebelions. Perhaps even plagues and other similar problems. Something to toss out a few curveballs that cant be easily countered by simply having a robust infrastructure.

If you're looking for a way to pass the time while you wait for a new patch to hopefully fix everything, I created a few custom sponsors inspired by the easy vanilla ones which I balanced to match vanilla Russia but with much higher evaluation goals:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1353413062

Try to survive until sol 100 while meeting your evaluation goal to get a pat on the back. (Although you're right that after sol 100 you usually become rich enough that your sponsor no longer matters and the game mechanics only break down further, so you might as well start a new game).

Be sure to include other mods like realistic mars and explorer AI for added fun!

Well then im the second. Mod's don't help much either as for some
reason most attemt to make it even easter !!
I got 1005% on a modded game and it was just the same as a vanilla 250%
.... Still yawning... That percentage is just a meaningless number to make weenies
feel good.....
