Construction nanites?
So I have researched the construction nanites but I can't figure out how they work and search only gives me an unanswered thread about how to stop them LOL.

So I "thought" (mistakenly) that-- for example -- I could put down a concrete excavator and some solar panels to be built -- in an outpost area. I only get a "too far from commander" message. How do you get these to work? Do they only work on some things? Definitely confused.

Any info greatly appreciated.

It makes every construction blueprints start to build themselves without drones, very slowly. Nothing for you to do. You will hardly notice it though if you stare at it.
It takes a long time.
Nanites will also grab resources from nearby storage.
Whats nearby?
Technically the whole map.
Under the hood if you research this tech, buildings eventually build themselves and take the resources from wherever you have them. No delivery no drones no shuttles.

FYI there are several "events" related to nanites both good and bad when you research this tech.

So in theory, if I got a commander over to the spot and put out the excavator and the solar panels right next to them and then LEAVE, it would eventually make a working excavator? And then the shuttles would pick up cement from the stack. But there would still be the rock to get rid of and without drones .... So it doesn't actually SOLVE anything it seems. And ^^ I thought about the downside but but but it is nearly impossible to completely disregard the research items. I really think that was a bad choice LOL, but hey -- only a player.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Will at least experiment so I understand a bit better. I am for better or worse playing a really hard game (also on a not very friendly place on the map) sooooooo -- outside of my comfort zone for sure. But a different way of thinking about things.

Yeah I wouldnt rely on nanite tech to build things you need.
But if you are like me and you place blueprints everywhere you intended to build later when you got the resources, you can now just turn them on instead of leaving those sites off as placeholders.
Fast construct the things you need and the other stuff eventually shows up later to a nice surprise.

OK. Will give that a try when I have more options open. Only at year 62 or something at the moment. Thanks. AND in theory you should get a message that the extractor or whatever isn't working when the storage or rocks get filled. So you would know. Meanwhile I have some fires to put out LOL. I think I double my difficulty level :D.
