Best way to produce food?
I am now in the midgame of my first game. I have 3 medium domes (and 3 small ones), 241 inhabitants and about 70% of all techs. So far I have been able to get by on food provided by rockets (120 each) so I had a stockpile of about 900 food. I am only producing 5 food and my consumption in 40+. I just ordered another rocket but it is already down to 740, so at some point it will become unsustainable. Probably due to the number of childern. So I need to create a food dome.

Now my question: What is most efficient? Indoor farming? Or the outdoor fungi farms (they seem to use a lot of oxygen and water). And if indoor, which crops?

The crop with the biggest number after dividing food grown by sols taken

I maintain a very good rate and perfect soil quality by setting my farms to quinoa->corn->fruit tree. Corn seems to be the highest yield per sol crop. If you need a lot of food to stockpile now while you figure it out you can spam corn until the soil dies and then build it back up with other crops.

Indoor farming in my opinion. Those big circle like farms which take up a lot of space. If you grow for example apples on them, that nets you 80 food per 8 days. In a medium dome you can have easily 2-3 of these and still have plenty of housing and nursing and facilities etc. The farms outside aren't worth it in my opinion, at least not if you got those circular farms for inside.

Btw; you seem to have low habitants, do you have enough workforce for everything? Like I have about the same amount of inhabitants but I only have 1 medium dome (about 100 inhabitants) and 3 small domes (about 50 inhabitants each).

Ues you are right. I can house a lot of additional colonistst. I started to create specialised domes. So I created new medium domes and removed some facilities from the original small domes. Such as the research labs, machine parts factory and polymer production.

So far:
Medium engineering dome=electronics+machineparts+polymer (+2x metal happened to be near it)
medium training dome= school+uni (3 nursery+2 appartments)
medium research dome = 5 research labs (so 70% space wasted xD)

Old small domes is rare metal, metal and rare metal (I removed the research labs there). About 30-40 inhabitants each.

Next on the list is a medium food dome. After that, no idea. Maybe a true engineering dome because my current engineering dome also has like 20 geologists :P.

there is also the bt tech arcology that gives an extra 35 living space for the dome spire place, very useful

Fungus farms are the best in terms of dome space and population, but they have a massive resource cost. Farms are basically free, and generate o2. Hydroponics are garbage, unless there's some specific breakthrough that massively enhances them, which there probably is.

I just grow pure quinoa on 100% quality soil inside domes; two farms were more than enough to get me up to around 250 people.
