Mohole mine problem
After getting this it seems to produce a TON of regular metal along with rare metals. I don't know what to do with all this metal and its just stacking up on storage platforms. Any advise?

Dude... Ri0Rdian's post you are replying to was made almost a year ago! That's long before the recently implemented Storage building you refer to was available.

Captain Hindsight, lol.

Yeah you got to love those people who run their mouth in a necro and completely ignore the fact certain features were not available then.

Rather than just throwing it away, and since this is a late game issue. Why not try building lots more machine parts factories to make the metal into machine parts.
You can then use the excess machine parts to solve any unemployment issues by mass building robotics workshops for your idle pop to play with.
Bottomless was easy enough to make, something that can take in a resource and give out another is trickier.

Just make big storages if you can't sell the stuff yet:

and use DRONES n SHUTTLES (+ meteor defence) instead of rovers.

Bottomless Storage:
Anything added to this storage depot will disappear (good for excess resources).

Be careful where you place it as drones will use it like a regular depot (defaults to no resources accepted).

This is handy. Now to make an entity animation that shows a hole in game where drones just toss stuff in.

I did add:
Debug>Anim Debug Toggle
Debug>Anim State Set
Debug>Attach Spots Toggle
for when you start modelling :)

Although scaling down the mohole mine might work, still gotta do the drone anim...
Edit: Nope, breaks the ground (well anything below obj:SetScale(39) ).

I wouldnt animate the drones. I'd leave those classes alone. Instead I would put a storage spot in front where the drones load, then at a set point have it flip and toss the resources into the hole.
I'll add it to my to do list for when I start modelling.

you might want to read back, we're talking about resources that cannot be sold, period. raw base metals, and their byproducts, cannot be sold to earth. if you have a mohol mine, it makes 2.5 base metals over rare metals. which means if you tech out and max production, you tend to get a LOT of 'leftover' base metals over time - like tens of thousands of units of an unsellable resource over a relatively small number of sols.

i'm now hoping that one suggestion of using the new workshops to 'eat' excess metal might do the trick.

Golden Storage:
Converts Metals to Precious Metals (10 to 1 ratio).

There is actually a mod that puts 3 mohole style mines in game.
Each only produces 1 resorce and no waste. OP should try that.
It is easy to find, only 34 pages to look through! Sorry i can't
remember the name of the mod.

Well I agree that game is lacking the endgame. Metal is just work for the martians at the end. Produce machine parts of it and put it to the storage. It's kinda boring doh. There should be something else to produce from the metals on the late game.

we are very early in the start of the game anyways. there are at least two expansion packs that will add more objects and stuff into the game. as well as the fact that the game itself will be expanded upon too.. so i would just continue to make suggestions to the developers. since this seems pretty effective

I always end up with too much metal. Here is my strategy. I never bring colonists until pretty much everything in the colony is pre-built. At the very beginning of the game, once I've decided where I'm going to place my main colony, I place one polymer depot and one or two metal depots close to the colony so the RC Transport will clear up the nearby resources. Set these to Zero desired metals. Then I go to two or three places on the far side of the map, equidistant from the main colony site. Drop 10 regular metal depots at each location and set the desired amount on each one to 180. Depots are free (no resources or power used) and you don't need to have drones actually AT that location to build the depots. This way, when you get the RC Transport AI tech and enable it, the Transports will drop off all that extra metal at the distant metal depots but still bring the polymers to the main site. Then I heavily research the Robotic tech stream and get the Mohole ASAP. Sometimes this is tricky if you have limited funds but it’s possible with the right Mission Sponsor and Mission Commander. Once I have the Shuttle tech and build my Shuttle Hub, I turn off Shuttle access to nine of the depots at each site and place a RC Commander with 3-5 drones (whatever I can spare) near the tenth depot. This means that Shuttles will only deliver to that 10th depot and the drones will distribute metal to the other nine, mostly ensuring that the stupid drones won’t pick up at that location and transport metal BACK to the main colony. (It still happens occasionally but not nearly as much as it does if the Shuttles have access to all the depots.) When those depots become full, just add more depots with the above criteria. You’ll need to balance your Shuttle fuel requirements against your production so if you’re short on fuel just place a couple of Metals Storage (4K) near the Mohole so that you don’t need to transport metal as fast. By this time in the game though, I usually have the Space Elevator built and plenty of fuel so I just let them run on automatic regardless of how much stupid stuff they do.

After first building the Mohole you want to turn them into machine parts for the Mohole upgrades.

Then you can later maybe trade machine parts with the other colonies if you have Space Race.

You also have workshops that consume resources as well.

Trade it to Polymers ,food, ect or sell it thru trade deal

guys, this post is well over 6 months old, the problem was solved long ago.
