Bigger Domes
When do the bigger domes become available? This little domes are a pain for running a self-sustaining colony.

It's in your tech tree somewhere.

Meaning possibly never (realistically) since those are randomized. :steamfacepalm::steamfacepalm::steamsad:

(I've already researched about 65% of my tech tree.)

Reasearch for it is randomly place, sometimes you get lucky and get it early, sometimes you have to wait.

i'm researching the medium dome at the moment, im about 45% researched

Medium domes are usually in like the 6th-10th slot on the engineering tech line. Technologies have tiers and they are only randomized within their tier from what I understand.

This. Medium is more or less in the middle of the bunch but on the early numbers usually. If you are lucky you get the Oval Dome breakthrough which is quite a bit better than the Medium Dome and can serve you really well.

Yeah, as it happens, just a second ago I finally unlocked the medium dome. Took long enough.

Now I just wish there were an easy way to replace my clustered smalled domes with these medium domes. (And before and if anyone suggests it, no, killing off the residents is not an option.)

Only way is to demolish everything in the small domes so they're forced to move to the bigger ones, then demolish the small ones one by one. That's a lot of relocating of materials, pipes, electrical too. Yeah, ok, no easy way to do it - just keep the little ones as the ghettos for all the non-working kids and seniors! :P

As long as you have shuttles it should be easy, find another location where you want a Dome and via forbid/allow make people migrate there. Deconstruct old Dome and build a new one in it's place. You now got two Domes.

But sure, having to have 2 Domes to rebuild one is a hassle. However imagine a RL scenario and you end up with having to have another place to stay in the meantime too so not much to be done :P

You don't have to demolish things to force them to move. Just change the filter on the old dome so nobody is allowed there. They will leave on their own pretty quickly without side effects of making them homeless and taking away all their comforts.

Right, you could do it this way and wait for them to vacate - but eventually the dome has to be demolished if the objectiove of the OP is to replace all of them with medium or larger anyways. I don't really see their stats drop that quickly from homeless/jobless state when I force someone to change residences or jobs in another dome if they have a new residence and new job assigned anyways.

Ow you will get it, maybe your just late getting it.

Yeah tech are randomized order (although they are tierd, so you never get an end game tech first for example). But you will always eventually get all the techs. What you don't get are all the breakthroughs. You only ever get some of them on a given playthrough.
