I'm in a simialr position with 1 single colonist. I needed 1 scientist to go work in Dome A, and the other colonists on the rocket to go work in Dome B. Like you I landed the rocket somewhere between both domes but everyone went to Dome B.
Now that scientist is stuck in Dome B and will not go to the other dome to be productive 'cos it's too far away and I don't have the shuttle tech yet.
I hate this game ... but can't stop playing it.
I specifically landed the rocket more or less equi-distant from each of those domes. I had 3 scientist who I thought would go to A, 3 geologist to go to B and 6 non-specialists who would go to C to be educated.
Everyone went to C - and it wasn't even the closest dome to the rocket!!! I tried to pause and select each colonist as they came out of the rocket - judged where they were going to [C], figured out the ones who were going to the "wrong" place and, like you, was completely unable to set them to live or work in the dome I wanted them to.
They are all in C now and I still don't have shuttles. I have the tech but not the parts to build and maintain yet.
This does feel bugged, I agree. Not being able to send colonists to other domes manually, or I'm simply expecting too much and it is working as intended. Frustrated.
So the only solution is the shuttles. I guess it'll balance out in time.
You are not setting your filters then. You can set filters for each dome and flag it to let in certain jobs and perks and keep out others. just likethe passenger selection menu.
I thnk their dome travel distance should be the same distance as form the rocket. It is the work distance that is really short, like maybe 6-8 hexes around the dome.
Now go start over again :P
I know I did after learning some major things liek that.
I don't think it's an issue with the filters sadly. I wish it was that simple.
I do have an autosave from before the rocket landed - maybe I should "replay" the landing and make sure it's closer to where I need those specialist to go. Or maybe I should just go to bed :)
Click on the dome then in upper left is a perk thingy. That allows you to set everything you want or dont want in a dome.
The LAST thing you want is an idiot flaw near any of your factory domes. They will break constantly.
Like in my games I make a food dome, I only allow unspecialized, botanists, and medics into it, every other job is denied. Just like my factory domes only allow engineers, geologists, medic, and unspecialized.
I've already filtered out undesirables before rocket launch.
The only idiot is me still trying to figure this out at 5am :)
Try that?
In any case, what I'd really like to know is the EXACT number of spaces there can be between dome outside boundaries and still allow relocation between domes. I had a case where there were 2 spaces last night and it let me do it, what is the max?
At the very least it should the working distance outside the dome. Which is the area around the outside of the dome when you go to place it. Like 8 or 9 hexes, kinda hard to count.
At maximum it would be the max distance form the rocket to the dome.
Here is an example for you. I finished my science dome. I grabbed the scientists I still had on earht alogn with some medics and unspecialized to fill the dome. When landing I did not quarrantine the other domes, my medics and unspecialized ran off to the older domes rather that the new dome.
You can always still turn the quarrantine back on or off after making adjustments to the filter. It was jsut kinda dumb to have it be turned back off afterwards, or maybe it a stupid code issue.
