Drones will not build far out...even with hubs nearby
Hey guys|

So i started to expand and I have drone hubs built near the resources I need. Each Hub overlaps each other so the drones will never be too far out of rc range.

However, I noticed they stopped building power cables and cement extractors and other buildings even when there is a hub right there.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Screenshots always help.

It's possible the hub needs maintenance and the drones have run out of power. You may have to send an RC to save the day.

drones are fully powered. RC are fully powered. ill post a screenshot soon

forget the screenshots...have no idea where steam puts them

Do you have materials they can access?

have the same problem, wondering if drones won't leave their set area from their local hub to venture into another hub (even if it's overlapping) to get resources?

They won't. Gotta use the Transporter or Rover for that, or set up another Drone Hub.

You can manually control drones like they are the RC units. Click one and tell it to go get something outside its range and it will. Without seeing the specific scenario, I'm not sure what more advice other than make sure there are storage depots at each overlap spot. the depots trigger drones to act if they are withing their control range.

hey. Yeah i put all the drones into the rv...then took them out...and then reassigned them to the hub i need them to work around. However they wont do any work. But i t may be they cant get to the resources even though the hubs overlapped.

Ill test something out and get back to you all

Hubs overlapping doesn't do any good. Drones assigned to one hub will not leave the area of that hub on their own. They won't cross into the area of another hub to grab resources.

I forgot to add before: if you are using drone hubs that overlap each other AND have storage at each overlap location, you still need drones at each hub to do the moving (not just at the last hub) as well as everything powered. Also, since it's basically a chain, if any link breaks (drone hub stops working or drones broken down) the whole thing stops working. Also, you can use the RC transport to bring the necessary materials to the final destination a bit faster than a drone hub chain but it requires more manual micromanagement.

that was it...even though the drone hubs overlapped, drones that belong to one hub cannot enter another hub where all the resources were.

So i had to drop a universal depot near the furthest out hub and dropped resources onto that. It worked then.

@astasia that's what the overlap is for. You place storage depots in the overlapping area so drones from 2 separate hubs can access them without needing to leave their area.

Wow, that seems like a micromanagement nightmare.

It's not. Overlap hubs, place generic storage in the shared area, make sure all hubs have some drones (they start with a handful)
