Also, they don't connect to the doors. That's a common misunderstanding people have; they try to connect them to the doors to the domes and can't figure out why they can't place them.
Btw could you share order how you make specialized domes? It is fine in long game but I now chase 100 sol achievements and found mzself in position I rather expand with new dome for mining purpose or something than eg. senior one + the issue with seniors is not so big for quite some time. Same I rather have farm in ever dome so they are self sufficient and not depending on shuttle transport (+in time research makes the add comfort).. and childern, well those giv eme headache. I think i will focu on turn off breeding in all beside some medium/big with all schools and universities (+sanatorium) that will breed specialized population later on instead some childern domes... is there some ratio of population/schools/unviersities/plazgrounds? ¨
(I use so far for ~50 pop = 2x apartments + 1x farn + 1x dinner +1x grocer +0,5x infirmary)
First thing I do is build a second barrel dome as a child dome. Getting children out of the main domes frees up living space for colonists and stops wasting services on children. Barrels are cheap, and nurseries are the best housing in the game. I can expand out the barrel as my children numbers grow.
From there, I generally go for a medium food dome first (earlier you can get a solid food production going the earlier you can start trading excess to your rivals for metal/concrete/polymers) and food is super easy to produce and make a good trade resource. Then it's usually a medium manufacturing dome to ween myself of Earth and put engineers to use productively, plus most of the sponsor goals will involve manufacturing of some kind. Finally a medium research dome. It helps to do research last because your colony is more stable and you'll have had time to scan the map and find research bonus sites, so you're liable to want to place it off a ways to take advantage them. That lets me then repurpose my original barrel dome into a second child dome.
During that time, I may intersperse a seniors dome that consists of just housing and rec buildings plus a food depot outside, no services. Completely depends on how much of my population is turning into seniors (if you avoid bringing anything but youths/adults from Earth for as long as possible you can seriously push off the time until you start getting seniors), whether I get an early Forever Young breakthrough (which negates the need for senior domes entirely), stuff like that.
Also, depending on breakthroughs I'll start a training dome. Dual-spire domes make ideal training domes, but if none come up two passage-linked basics work. I need two spires because I use my training domes as flaw fixing domes, and the proper ratio is about 2.5 universities to a spire to keep the colonist pipeline moving. They have to be in the same dome or passage connected so that the colonists in each "training dome" has access to spires that fix all the flaws. When I build this dome is also situation, but it's usually to either side of the research dome.
And btw why ranch? It needs extra oxygen and you can get more from 100% soil and botanists on farm imho/
And a turkey farm is good for right at the start before you have farms.
