The Remote Martian Laboratory
Coming off the Twin Peaks story bit, there's a project on the planetary view called Remote Martian Laboratory. The requirements are ridiculously steep; 75 Electronics, 150 Polymers and 100 Machine Parts. From what I can find on the web, the reward is "a new breakthrough".

Is that it? A (early game) game breaking amount of resources and all you get is access to a tech you might otherwise have gotten elsewhere? And what's really annoying, you'll get a warning that the rival colonies are going after it, even though on their info screens they have nowhere near the resources required to make the expedition work.

Does anyone have any more info on this? Is it a complete waste of resources or is there something more to this one?

OK, answered my own question...

Playing SpaceY, I ended up doing SETI and then got the company goal of 7 planetary anomalies, which gave me 4000 Mc to buy the 3000 Mc resources required for the mission. (Note; anyone else it would have been 6000 in resources.)

It went up and I ended up getting the spire pre-fab tech, which just added to the list of stuff to eventually research. A ridiculous waste of resources for the return. So I reloaded a previous save and kept my stockpiles for something more worthwhile.

Lesson learned.

Yup its shame that its completlyy random, since its so expensive the least they could do is to let you select one breakthrought its a library after all.... it would be the most sought for anomaly then tho...

yes, i know i'm dragging up an old post here, but honestly this was the first time this anomaly popped up for me and wow... what a rip.... misleading as all hell to be honest, as it says something about reciave a breakthrough, i thought it would be revealing an actual breakthrough tech, not the garbage normal tech it revealed... wow.. never again

You dont need to complete that anomaly right away. Leave it for when you have plenty of resources to spare. Period. Yup i agree that the requirements are too high for the reward, but a breaktrough tech can be incredibly useful and it will be worthy to spare those materials in something that is going to last your entire run.

@Mysterias - Are you sure you got a regular tech rather than a Breakthrough? Sure there are some Breakthrough that looks not so good, but it should never give a tech as reward : /

positive... only have 3 breakthroughs on this this playthrough and was hoping to get another, all 3 of those had already been researched completly and checked off.... the outcome only revealed 2-3 regular techs from the other trees... i would count it a win if i HAD gotten a breakthrough, albiet, an expensive one... but no...not even a cheapo like automanous hubs

Sounds like the random breakthrough selected as reward was one of the three you already got and researched so in turn it gave some regular techs : / RNG at its worst -.-
mysteriasdrassa Nov 23, 2022 @ 7:12pm
yeah, that's just crap coding... it should default to a different breakthrough in the if/then line, not regular techs
