Can anyone elaborate on colonists needs?
As far as I understand they go to a food building once per day and another building according to their preference (park for relaxation, space bar for drinking etc). If a colonist has "shopping" as a preference then they can go to a Grocer for food and for their shopping need.?

Yes grocer will satisfy shopping need.

When you hover your mouse over the building in the build menu it tells you what services that building satisfies at what comfort level.

So, yes grocer satisfies both food and shopping. Diner satisfies food, social and dining. The open air gym satisfies exercise and social. However parks also satisfy exercise (albeit at a 10 point service level lower), and also provide relaxation and playing at a smaller building footprint and they don't require polymers to build - only concrete. So you have to make a choice between what best fits your colonist's needs versus your available materials and dome space.

good food, a home, security, water and oxygen, not cold, they prefer to work inside the dome

it is the basic

after it is park, luxury, social

i say until 50 sol or even 100 sol your colonists are only from earth, because you dont have yet all the upgrades to improve their life for babies

Not true. I usually get a births within 2-5 sols of the first colonists arriving.

plz show us a video you build a dome at 5 sols without mod or cheat ^_^

if you say in 2 sols you build a dome, i say to you it is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ since than you dont have enough mat on mars for that and than the rocket need more than 2 sols to come to mars and i suppose you have enough money to buy the mat for your dome

I think the key part of Willow's statement was 'of the first colonists arriving'.

Which I don't doubt. I usually get a birth within that 10 day founder period, but I can't tell you precisely how many sols it is.
vkobe Aug 14, 2018 @ 6:47pm
and i didnt say 50-100 sols after the first colonist arrive

i said 50-100 sols from the game start

of course if the dude has already all the technologies and resources i dont doubt he have all the advantages to have his babies fastly after he build his dome

now try to have babies when you are in suvival mode and need to manage natural disaster and energy crisis and resource scarce, especially with iron

if he can have babies before 50 sols with only tier 1 technology well i will admit he is a very good player

vkobe - mate, I get the impression you're reading aggression into comments that just isn't there.

Chill duuuuuuuude.

Either way, I'll get back to you in a day or two.

I just started a Russia, amateurs, armageddon, dust in the wind, hunger, more applicants, the last ark, twister, winter is coming game. I'm 12 sols in, have weathered an electrostatic storm, am currently withstanding a meteor storm, have got a steady supply of standby water and oxygen building up, the first arrival ship is nearly fully refueled, have got my first main dome and kinder micro dome built, and am about to build the passage linking the two. All things considered I think I could have my founders landing before the 20th sol. We'll see if I can my first martianborn bub in a nursery before the 30th sol...

The biggest challenge will be not relying on save files and see if I can do a continuous play through without reverting to the save files.

Edit : mind you I'm not playing a scarce resource map. I'll be buggered if I'm playing all those game rules *AND* having to put up with scarce resources. If I can't rely on having scouted a good landing site with the technology that we have to actually reach Mars in the first place already available, then there is something wrong with reality.

In the spirit of 'shots or it didn't happen' - 1st shot shows the first martianborn popping up in the residence on sol 26. I didn't end up letting the colonists land until the evening of sol 22 because I wanted to have farms researched by the time they made landfall.

Second pic shows summary of the 12 founders stats at time of birth

Third pic is set up of main dome. There is a second dome set up to be a kindergarten. While there is a diner, since none of the founders were foodies and I was wanting people to staff the farm and security station, I closed down the diner in favor of those other buildings. I'll get it up and running again once I've got an extra body or two, or the storm passes.

Can I just say - I was thinking the security station was useless, but it really does help keep the colonists under control when disaster strikes.

You only needed 1 grocery (2 shifts), 1 diner (2 shifts 1 slot), 1 infirmary (3 shifts 1 slot), 1 farm (5 slots wheat until 100%) and 1 big decoration for your first dome to have babies within 2-3 days if you have parity women/men.
With the new update, you now have 2 peoples available because infirmary gives the comfort reduction to have babies with only one shift open per day.
Security towers are useless until you have specialised agents as it is demonstrated in the video.

Never use open air gym who gives the fit trait which gives your seniors 5 days more before death. This trait should be a flaw.
When you have 3 free peoples, use them to populate a research lab.
Instead of the bar and the security tower, put a school and a playground once the first newborn appears.
