A challenge that destroys the fun, why?
Okay, "don´t do them", you might say. As you all know we gamers tend to be a bit compulsive when it comes to challenges and do them regardless of the fun factor.

Having 200 colonists before Sol 100 ... never done this but I am slower than that usually due to map difficulty, so it seems hard but within the games scope. The one challenge I can understand but wouldn´t do, especially knowing about the breeding problem that happens later on.

Selling 100 rare metals? Easy peasy, no challenge at all, this is practically needed in all runs to survive, income is needed at some point.

Having 40 science projects done by Sol 100, this is a game destroyer. It practically forces you to research every low tier project leaving no room for planning, want something researched far up the science tree? Sorry to break it to you, no can do, you need those 40 projects done first to relax. Much easier if you are playing Europe on this one and get the right techs straight away, but maps differ and growth inclucing the number of scientists is by far a guarantee.

There is no real balance between the 3 challenges I have been presented with, one is "okay´ish", one is too easy and the last just ruins the fun.

How slowly are you researching? I don't find the 40 techs before Sol 100 to be at all challenging.

The last game I got my evaluation asking me to research 40 techs by sol 100... I actually had... Let me remember, I really wasn't paying attention... High 60 to low 70?
Ghostwind Mar 24, 2018 @ 12:21pm
i completed this in my first game and i began slowly too, but after i got rare metal i invested almost all of it in outsource research. dont remember exactly but i got somewhat over 70 techs till sol 100.

Use the outsource research next time.
Don Cool Mar 24, 2018 @ 1:07pm
Watch people on youtube playing on 400+ difficulty, very few of them get research going well until much later on.

Outsource research? Not an option in the game I was playing, only found one rare metal deposit early on and needed to save those for electronics.

The rare metals challenge is doable regardless of start, the others not so much.

Well there´s a situation in which there´s a world war and all supplies are cut off for so stupidly long that eventually you run out of resources and to top it all off there´s a meteor shower that falls guess where.....................right on your base, nowhere else. This is just moronic, playing for many hours just to go thru something stupid such as this.

Why would you run out of resources when it is so mind boggling easy to be self sufficient? I always am self sufficient way before my mystery hit me...

Just because YOU find it easy to be self sufficent doesn't mean everyone else will, stop assuming that everyone plays the game the same way *you* do.

As for me, so far the 200 pop before Sol 100 has been the most challenging and I've yet to be able to get it.

USA is research the whole engineering tree. Easily done if outsource after getting your rare materials shipping out.

Europe is research 5 breakthroughs. I did that without even building a dome. Grab some electronics to plant a lot of sensors. Spend all your funds on outsourcing. With the 12-16 sensors you place you should easily get 5 breakthrough really quick along with the sensor upgrade tech.

Hint: Take the Ogliarch trait. Then you just need like 4 basic domes. 1 dome with liek 4 farms, maybe a couple fungus thingies. Then 2 engineering/geology, and the 4th for science. It also aint hard because it is China you can get liek 32 passengers (22 +10) per rocket.

The 200 drones was a snooze fest. change your starting rocket to have 1 stirling, 1 vapor, 1 fuel factory, then pack it with drone hubs. Do NOT buy single drones (hubs are cheaper and lighter.) run around do some anomlies and get the drone tech that increases hubs to 6, then place your hubs.

And stop assuming that because you (I am assuming) can't do it that you're part of the "majority".

it all depends on your sponsor, map, diff, resources, distance .etc..... playing on a LOW diff, its quite easy to become self sufficent. again all dependent

Do I have to post my 475% difficulty screenshot again?

not at all but saying you are self suffecient bc you "completed" the mystery doesnt mean you are, but opinions and all. and was refering to the other guy. but that being said it does get a bit tricky at times, managing the colonists AFTER they grow old and cant work, i mean i can launch a few rockets to get to 100 colonists, complete milestones, but thats a sprint, i would love to see that finished out. but thats my opinion :) we both enjoy the game but play it different :) either way GG!

One of Hedgemont (or whatever the name) biggest misgivings on this game is that they wanted to catter to all audience, both hardcore fans of this genre and the casual gamer. You can't do that and, as completely expected for such an endeavor, neither party is really happy with the result.

It´s really hard to talk comparitive difficulty in this game. In my last game I started with a concrete deposit, no metals, no water and 0 research. It took me 10 sols to find water and some time more for a rare metal deposit. Needless to say that everything was a grind based on managing what I had instead of focusing on what I could have. I also didn´t get those two bonuses to reasearch early on .... by sol 22 I had a research lab as the only research income.
