Meteors Over kill ?
Playing in a area rated at 1 bar for meteors.
However I just went through a meteor storm lasting 2 sol and 17 hrs. It was a BOMBARDMENT that would have done justice to a battlefield in WWI. AFter it was over there was hardly anything left to do but consign the game to the allready overflowing dustbin and start anew.
If this was a level 1 meteor storm I would hate to see a level 5 anytime soon. I really felt dissapointed that it was so intense and uncomprimising and realisticly gives the player no chance of recovering afterwoods. I believe that there is some defense against the menace late game but many never reach that point.
It many ways it is a great game and even on easy presents tha player with many ways to die early on. Perhaps it was my imagination that the physical risks ramp up when your colony has removed the threat of failure from lack of Electronic, polymers and Machine parts. Clever programming if that is the case.

You got extremely unlucky. It selects random place on map for "bombardment", and as a result it is completely harmless in most cases, even usefull as it deposits some metal and anomalies.
I've survived such "bombardment", but it happened to me bofore i landed first colonists, so i just turned everything off, moved all rovers, drones and resources away and waited for it to end. Then repaired things, losses were not that terrible.

It IS a survival game. You could pick ANY spot to land on the planet.
Choose wisely.

yup just bad luck, i actually like meteor storms for the above stated reasons and because they miss completely 90% of the time until your base gets large enough to occupy several sectors at wich point you should have anti meteor weapons

I frequently play maps with capped meteor storms. No reasons not to, the meteors drop anomalies that give you research points and it's generally easy to handle. Even after a massive bombardment, if you have enough storage, redundancy and drones, it takes half a sol to get it all repaired and it's like nothing ever happened. :p

And like others have said, by mid-game you have MDS lasers, which destroy meteors in range, you can easily protect your weaker points like Moxie's or Solar Arrays x_x

Level one and max level meteor strikes are exactly the same. The only difference is the frequency.

And that was just bad luck on your part. Or poor planning. Live and learn.

I think the keyword is "storm". That means there will be multiple strikes per wave and multiple waves. If playing in the early part of a given run, its free metal and a small amount of polymer from the storms. Later in the game, you will use laser weapons to get "some" of them. The environment on Mars needs to be harsh for effect and challenge IMO.

In the game i'm playing now, I had a 3 sol coldwave AND a meteor shower.
(Both Lvl 4) AND dust devils. As soon as the coldwave ended i got a HUGE
electrical/dust storm, The meteors continue to fall.....(also Lvl 4) So....
You are not so badly off as you think.
One of my ground heaters was hit repeatedly, (5 times in a row) every time
just AFTER i had repaired it!!

Have you ever had a combined dust storm and meteor shower for about 3 days? :D I remained with a dome with 5 cracks and another one with 2 cracks.

And I tought I will lose the dome after 3 hits... never thought it will survive 5 direct hits.

Build a dozen anti-meteor lasers and meteor storms become a snore fest.

On the other hand it is fun as hell to run your rovers through meteor storm to catch the anomalies.

A tip, if you have a RC rover in a meteor storm area, just recall all your drones. If they assault your base for reason, same thing, deconstruct your drones so you dont lose them.

try olympus mons west area - 21°N140°W
electrified dust storms - a nightmare :)

how do you choose wisely when given enough time metor storms will hit every inch of the map.

statisicly he was incredibly unlucky. im in a lvl 3 metor area and have never been hit early but if it did it could take out so much infastructure that like OP would have to restart. nothing wrong with that.

This game actually needs lvl 10 meteors. 1-4 are laughable unless ofc you do get hit very early.

given how random the research tree is and breakthroughs... it's a coin toss if you get it early enough or not to matter lol

Nah, rush it with a fast sector scan of the map.

I wasn't aware it gets unlocked with a full map scanned, nice! :steamhappy:

Yeah, soon as you get the autonomou scanners you run out and drop a scanner every 2 squares.

Then run around scan all the anomalies and you the anomalies unlock research for you. It is a great way to get ahead on unlockign the tech tree instead of base camping and hoping your next research doesnt unlock something that sucks.
