Well, that's why "hope", not "expect".
Some of such games with "potential" develop into something great, others are just abandoned. And there is also a chance that development can go in a direction you do not like. So it is like buying a lottery ticket...

I just said that I watched whole coverage of the game when it started out. What the heck are you smoking exactly? I can decide by myself, tyvm.
I'm referring to games in general that are of interest to you... watching a video and playing the game can be two completely different experiences.

Comparing planetbase to survivng mars... well, planetbase had all the similar flaws to surviving mars in its early development stages. Now it is a finished game. It also makes much more sense in general, there are no time inconsistancies, no magic etc. It has no limited resources on maps too, and at the same time it can be much more challenging at times. Overall at this point planetbase feels like much better game to me, but the downside is - it is finished, there will be no major updates, dlc-s or such. So one may hope that surviving mars will be a better game at some point in future...
Paradox published the game... there will be DLCs dude, guaranteed lol

The problem with this is that you can never trust games with reviews saying "this game has potential". Steam history itself proved countless times that a game that "has potential" about never reach said "potential".

Beside, this don't change the fact that I paid for a full game. Not "potential". I'd be happy with this game it if was 20$. I'm quite unhappy to have paid 20$ more for "potential"...
so right a review already dude... tell people to wait for a sale before dropping $40 on something you think isn't worth it... you're entitled to your opinion. Maybe some will share it, maybe some won't.

I think I did a fair job of sharing my opinion so far. Nobody actually read reviews much.

lol wow, not trying to lecture you man... but if you read some of the reviews they state some similarities to your opinions. Maybe it could've saved you some frustration :steamsalty:
Pre order?

I have only myself to blame, I admit.

I waited and still got it on sale... and watched videos and the forums here. I'll admit the game has some flaws to it and a certain learning curve that once known is easy to manage. That's any city builder really. Could the price have been a little less? Sure, of course. But if you're burnt out already just shelf it and wait for DLCs... it'll happen, trust me lol "Paradox"

Just look at any game Paradox has published or developed/published. Practically all of those have DLCs, content that could have justified the sale price upon release. This is just how the gaming industry is evolving... if it's not DLCs its microtransactions through Crates or other similar methods.
Just curious though... did any of you check the Store page thoroughly? Like... info on the Season Pass? More content coming in several months... so look forward to the Summer Sale and DLCs.
That's pretty much a scam as long as I'm concerned. I already consider the normal game 2 times too costly. Imagine if I had paid for stuff which I'm not even sure is going to happen.

People got burned a lot from Fallout 4 this way. Live and learn.

did you feel the same way about Stellaris and the DLCs later released?
Yes. But by that time I had played at least 80 hours in Stellaris so I considered it already getting my money worth. I paid 40$ for this game and I can safely said that I already stretched it out and I won't revisit again for a while.
this feels very .. cut into dlc's
or rushed relased and "mods will fix it" or buy DLC and buidling skin packs .
Very cool game though. Mysteries are awesome.
But after mystery and that one breaking point there is no challange and obviouse no design for end game of this game. It feels rather like trying to keep up with child boom . Seriusly after mystery it feels like .. no design what to do next. Unemployment goes high along side with homless people and all that gets from unbalanded child boom. Those problems dont reall affect your colony. Just few peoeple feel bad but who cares about them freeloaders. Got their mouth full for nothin. Have to weit for some dlc or mods for end game . For now I recomend to weit and look at frostpunk. I will do that , right after I discover what all 9 mysteries is about ;)
Planetbase is complete and short.

Surviving Mars has serious gameplay issues (that they are supposedly working on fixing) but has more replayability.

Startopia - is currently much more fun to play, (Except the combat which is horrible... but only shows up in the last few missions) and is more like the dungeon keeper games.
