Planetbase is a great game and it feels complete. This game is fun but content wise it's very lacking. At this point i would say planet base would be a better choice

Surviving Mars has tons of content and replay value in my experience. The devs are continuing to expand it with content packs and updates, and there’s already a pretty active modding community. Worth every penny.

Planet Base is a joke.

SM is a very, very slightly better joke.

Seriously.

A slightly more modern game which won't completely destroy your eyes and which is available on Steam is Startopia.

If you don’t want to play Surviving Mars, which I highly recommend, give Aven Colony a try.

Staropia was an awesome game, it was one the first management style games I played. The graphics are a bit dated but the game is still a lot of fun to play.

having Planet Base, Aven Colony, and now Surviving Mars... I'd say Aven Colony is the better choice given content and replay factor. PB is fun but after a while is rather boring and just a matter of expanding... SM is the same with a different spin on colony survival... Aven Colony seems more balanced and in-tune with what I would consider a colony on an alien world would be... all have their pros and cons too... but if you want a decent survival city-builder in a medieval setting, Forest Village is fun too play... but can get boring after a while... all these games will suffer a bit of repetition.

Aven colony seem to have the very same basic flaws than the other two. The only difference is that the devs seem to have added more content for free... Clearly people were not happy about the game at all tho because the overall ratings are very bad. Just looking at the screenshots and remembering it being showcased by Youtubers I can clearly remember that Aven Colony is not really worth playing for the price.

Pretty much the same than SM really.

:steamfacepalm: every single city-builder game out there has its own flaws, sometimes shared between games... Aven Colony is actually not as bad as the reviews claim it to be... Steam is full of people spamming negative reviews on games they thought was one thing only to be something else... people get salty.

I'd recommend you look into the Steam refund policy or watch some extensive videos on youtube to judge for yourself. Stop taking other peoples opinions into consideration when you have the ability to form your own independent opinion... don't be a lemming... be a honey badger.

I just said that I watched whole coverage of the game when it started out. What the heck are you smoking exactly? I can decide by myself, tyvm.

Comparing planetbase to survivng mars... well, planetbase had all the similar flaws to surviving mars in its early development stages. Now it is a finished game. It also makes much more sense in general, there are no time inconsistancies, no magic etc. It has no limited resources on maps too, and at the same time it can be much more challenging at times. Overall at this point planetbase feels like much better game to me, but the downside is - it is finished, there will be no major updates, dlc-s or such. So one may hope that surviving mars will be a better game at some point in future...

The problem with this is that you can never trust games with reviews saying "this game has potential". Steam history itself proved countless times that a game that "has potential" about never reach said "potential".

Beside, this don't change the fact that I paid for a full game. Not "potential". I'd be happy with this game it if was 20$. I'm quite unhappy to have paid 20$ more for "potential"...
