Game not launching in correct resolution
im trying to launch the game but the game launches in some insanely low resolution. its so low, that i cant even access the settings menu to change it back. i tried editing resolution in the text file and it reverted when i launched the game. if anyone has encountered this issue and knows what to do please let me know.

Yeah I'm getting the same, and it looks like there's little to be found out about it

The post is from april of last year, if you're experiencing the same it's likely a different issue.

Tried updating your video drivers, or manually changing it like he did?

Just for the heck of it, try key combo, ALT - ENTER. I have to use this to get Nvidia surround to span across 3 monitors. Maybe you will be able to get it to a state that you can access the display settings.

I'm getting exactly the issues they describe. I've evidently updated my drivers since this post. I have a single monitor, Alt+Return does switch it to windowed as you'd expect but then switches back to the same insanely low resolution.

It's also a current problem for other people; https://steamcommunity.com/app/464920/discussions/0/1642038749322042427/

I haven't had the issue on radeon or nvidia, maybe you and the other people with the issue could post your hardware/software setups and see if there's some common ground?

I have the issue both on an Intel HD 4400 integrated GPU on a Linux (Pop!_OS, Ubuntu derivative) laptop and on a GeForce 1080Ti W10x64 PC. In both cases it always defaults to low resolution, Default settings in the Display tab. I thought originally it was an issue from moving from 144Hz 1440p screen to 60Hz 1080p screen.

However you can only force it to adopt the resolution in Exclusive if you toggle to Windowed or Borederless first then reset to Exclusive, it won't switch resolution if you go Exclusive-Exclusive.

It also won't persistently save the settings in the Display tab between restarts of the game.

I've noticed that the issue spans elsewhere too; https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Surviving_Mars#Issues_unresolved

I just resolved it by switching from my preferred Exclusive fullscreen mode to Borderless fullscreen mode. It now saves all the settings in the Display tab.

Before that I tried;
  1. Updating video drivers
  2. Using different machines
  3. Manually setting the settings in the C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\LocalStorage.lua file
  4. Deleting the LocalStorage.lua file and letting the game recreate it

Oh, yeah I only use borderless, so that could be why I never noticed it.
