It should tell you how far when it changes color.

well from what i have seen domes need to be right next to each other to be connected.
bongerman85 Apr 25, 2018 @ 6:13pm
probably within radius of starting dome for construction

But.... But.... Connecting domes will fix everything........
The fanboi's told me.......

fix everything ?

it is just we want hubs to connect a group of domes that are close each other

for exemple a big central dome surrender by 10 small domes or 8 huge domes, so you build factories in this central dome and the others domes have only appartments and service

Except you cant really do that. Try to put 6 housing units in a small dome with a tunnel. You cant.
You can do 5, but that pesky tunnel eats a hex in one of your 10 hex wedges preventing you from putting housing their. Or anything else really useful like factories or farms.

Once you attach that tunnel the only thing you can put in that last wedge are small buildings. You know, like groceries, diners, maybe even a medical center. but if you have all that....what do you need the tunnel for to begin with?

I build domes near resources so they are'nt that close so i guess the new tunnels are worthless sigh

you need the tunnels to satisify people's work requirements, hobbies, get medical care, etc. Ideally, you'd have the larger domes. One has 5 residencies. Another has nurseries/schools. A third is all your food production. A fourth is all your machine parts/electronic production. A fifth (and maybe more) have whatever I missed in this list. Granted for the basic domes, you'd only have at most 2 tiers to fill because of the hex so small buildings would work. The setup is more ideal for medium on up (the residence dome has 1 tile that connects to the central hub which connects to the others

I think some people are overvaluing the benefit of the connections. Don't expect the colonists to go more than one dome from their home. I don't expect to be able to connect more than one dome per current exit. If you watched the dev blogs, the spacing between domes is dome - three hexes - dome. Limited range to prevent extremely lone "commutes" where workers miss work, relax, and sleep cycles.

I'm sure he knew that. Even the patch's publicity image shows that. :steammocking: I think what he probably meant was don't expect (or require) colonists to pass through one dome to get to yet another.

Exactly. Six basic domes can easily be connected to a basic dome, but colonists are limited in how many domes they can traverse. I may be mistaken, but I thought the dev blog could only go to a dome adjacent to their home.
MjrHeadache Apr 26, 2018 @ 12:45am
The new connections can only go 16 hexes. The colonists can only go to the next dome (so no dome-to-dome-to-dome).

The tunnel should run from one of the air locks
