Most likely an upgraded version of the Tropico 5 engine.

Got a response from a dev over at Paradox Plaza:

(and no, it is not Unreal Engine, it is a creation of our own)

Well since Surviving Mars seems rather laking in llamas maybe they should name it with some Llama pun?

Got some more info: The last games using the engine was Tropico 5 and Victor Vran. Loads of tinkering going on.

It is their own engine, written in C++. The modding language is Lua 5.3.
Sweet

What's a General Electric Diesel-Electric locomotive doing in Bulgaria? o_O I'm thinking a Soviet Class TU7 Diesel would be more likely.

Happy to read that :steamhappy:: I was afraid that this game was running on Unity, which has some performance issues in Cities Skylines

OK, so from now on they may refer to it as their "Mars" engine.

That one is taken though. And the Mars Engine is old.
