How do you mine distant deposits?
Here i am in the lower right corner,

the metal mine i have is getting depleted, i need more

The only other one i can see is away up north, its miles away. What do i do about this?

The only solution i can see is to crawl a trail of drone centres up there to get to the site, then build a dome and ship in geologists. This seems a lot of work just to mine a deposit, and i've gotta entertain those guys too or they get mad and leave

is there anything better i can do:? I have shuttles. Can people just commute to the mine by shuttle and fly back home? Can i mine it directly with vehicles or somesuch?

You have shuttles, so you really don't need to do much at all.

Just build a remote mining outpost. Microdome, drone hub, storage. 24 colonists max to run the mine and services. Some cheap solar panels, a battery, vaporator, and you're set.

Use a RC Commander rover to build the outpost. RC transport can move over the concrete and metals, or your shuttles will ferry material over to a universal depot if you build one over there, and they will move over your workforce. There's no way to mine 'remotely'; it has to be in range of a dome, but it really won't cost you much to set one up.

There's no need to build a giant chain across the map. Separately little outpost, shuttles handle transport.

Like Ericus1 said, build a small dome there. Or, there is a tech that allows you to run extractors without people at 50% efficiency. Sorry dont recall the name of the tech.

As Ericus1 said once you've got shuttles and an RC Commander it's pretty easy to setup remote mining stations. Personally if it's a single relatively small deposit I like to use Micro Domes. They have just enough room for people to run an extractor or two plus support services. Two Living Complexes gives room for 32 people. A Small Space Bar, Infirmary and Grocer requires 12. That leaves 20 left to work in the mines which is enough to run one extractor at 3 shifts and a second at 2 shifts (or put the infirmary at one person per shift and turn on third shift for the second extractor).

Once the mine is depleted I tend to convert the dome into either a creche or retirement dome since it's got the infrastructure built up.

For places where there are multiple deposits in close proximity (or I just want to put more extractors on a rich deposit) I really like Barrel Domes. They've got room for six or seven living complexes plus support services which is enough to run four or more extractors.

The nice thing about using micro and barrel domes for mines is that in addition to being cheap they benefit from the Dome Bioscaping tech so the residences have higher comfort to offset the lack of services.

Barrels are nice, since there isn't really a great spire for a mining dome, and they make good childrens' creches if you do want to repurpose the dome later since there's also no spire that is useful for children either.

Extractor AI, and it's a breakthrough so you may never get it on any particular map. But if you do, great.

Here's a bit more detailed breakdown I did for a guy that asked basically the same question a couple days ago.
