Drone tutorial: stuck on sensor tower construction
Hello-
I'm in the part of the drone tutorial when you construct the sensor tower, and I'm stuck. When I ordered the construction of the sensor tower, it said that I was outside the range of my drones. I went ahead and placed the sensor tower anyway.

Then, as instructed by the tutorial, I had the rover recall its drones and then move to a spot near the sensor tower site. Then I deployed the drones. I can see that the drones moved away from the rover, but they don't seem interested in building the tower. I can also see the resources piled up near the tower.

Then I thought, maybe I didn't really order the building of the tower? All I'm seeing is a green ghostly outline, which I believe is the tutorial saying to build it there. So I went in the build menu to find the sensor tower, but it says "not yet available." So I'm stuck. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks.

If you select a drone and place the cursor on the tower, you should see a red text indicating what is wrong

I don't think the tower is really "there," it's just a green ghost-outline, which I believe means that the tutorial wants it placed there. So when I select a drone and cursor over to the tower, there is no text. Also, when I try to place the tower (again) it says "not yet available."

I tried playing through this tutorial again. When I got to the point when you place the sensor tower, it said something like "too far from drone commander." I hit escape to get out. I thought maybe the rover had to be closer, so I waited for it to get a bit closer. I got back into the build menu and the sensor, but this time it said "not yet available." It seems like this tutorial gets into some kind of buggy state, and it has done this twice to me now. Fortunately, I believe it is the last action item in this tutorial, so I can just skip ahead to the next tutorial and not miss much. Maybe the devs can look into this...

I also experienced this. Rather disheartening to hit on a problem like this while trying to learn a game this complex.

Edit: Also, it can't be the 'last action item' in the tutorial, since the name of the tutorial is "Rovers, Exploration, and Research"

It's good to see I wasn't the only one... However, I've since moved on to playing an actual game, and I think it's a real good game.

I found the answer for this one. When it first asks you to send your drone rover up there, select the rover and choose "recall drones". Wait until they are all on board the rover, then send it up there and unpack them - the same button now says "deploy drones". Now your drones are in range and will catch the one-time build options during the tutorial.

It sucks that it's not flexible, but this is the way forward.

Encountered same thing. I think it bugs out if you are trying to place the tower while there is no drone coverage on recommended spot. My rover was moving, there was a warning about drones range and sensor tower got disabled without being placed.

I think I ran into something similar, but during the game. The rover with it's little drones wouldn't make a sensor tower anywhere. You just get the little ghostly image that the game knows you want to build a tower there and it's not built yet.

I found I had to build the sensor tower within range of a drone hub building. So maybe you have't placed the drone hub yet or the sensor tower is out of range? Click on the drone hub, then zoom out and you'll see a hatched outline of the range of the hub. Build the tower there, inside the range.

At least, that's my guess.

Tthe rover will be fine if you have electronics and metal near the tower ghost.

within the tutorial you have plenty of everything.

also, just from what i experienced, you are meant to build the tower out of drone range on purpose... than move the RC rover in range.

hope it helps.

Had the same problem, this fixed it, thank you!
